    Notes: Zusammenfassung 1. Die Paraphyse wird bei allen vier untersuchten Aves-Arten am 4. Tag nach Brutbeginn als solide Verdickung des rostralen Laminaepithels des Velum transversum angelegt. Das Organ erreicht bereits nach wenigen Tagen seine maximale Ausprägung und fällt danach — außer bei Gallus — degenerativen Prozessen zum Opfer. 2. Die Ontogenese der Vogelparaphyse stellt nur in den ersten Stadien eine partielle Rekapitulation der Verhältnisse bei Amphibien dar und ist danach nicht mehr mit der Entwicklung des Organs in dieser Wirbeltierklasse vergleichbar. 3. Eine ähnliche funktionelle Bedeutung des Organs wie bei den Amphibien läßt sich bei den Vögeln nicht nachweisen. Die im Zusammenhang mit der Desintegration der Paraphyse stehenden morphologischen (Bildung von Cysten) und histologischen (Vacuolisierung) Veränderungen werden im Hinblick auf entsprechende Befunde anderer Autoren bei Wirbeltieren und beim Menschen diskutiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Operation nach Moszkowicz ist ein einfaches, aber erfolgreiches Operationsverfahren, das in 1/3 der Fälle zur Beseitigung der Varicen und bei 3/4 der Operierten zu einer erheblichen Besserung der Beschwerden führt. Der Katheter soll so tief wie möglich eingeführt werden, um den höchsten Verödungseffekt am Unterschenkel zu erzielen. Die Operationsergebnisse lassen sich ferner durch die hohe Ligatur der Vena saphena und Mitnahme aller Seitenäste in der Fovea ovalis verbessern sowie insbesondere durch wiederholte percutane Nachverödungen. Mit der Operation nach Moszkowicz lassen sich ähnlich günstige Ergebnisse wie mit aufwendigeren Operationsverfahren erzielen.
    Notes: Summary The Moszkowicz-operation is a simple but successful operative process, which leads to elimination of the varices in one third of the cases and to a considerable improvement in the symptoms in three quarter of those operated. The catheter should be introduced as deeply as possible to achieve the greatest possible obliteration-effect in the lower leg. The operative results can be further improved by a high ligature of the vena saphena and the inclusion of all the side-branches in the fovea ovalis, as well as, in particular, repeated percutaneous after-obliteration. Similar favourable results can be achieved with the Moszkowicz-operation to those achieved with more complicated operative processes.

    Notes: Abstract The Mössbauer effect of theγ rays from the 74.5 keV state of Dy161 and the 80.7 keV state of Dy162 has been investigated. From hyperfine splitting patterns the magnetic moments μ(75 keV)=−(0.39±0.04) nm, μ(81 keV)=+(0.74±0.08) nm and the quadrupole momentQ(75 keV)=+(1.4±0.2)b have been determined. For the odd neutron nucleus Dy161 an effective spin g factorg s, eff=0.76 gs, free is deduced for the 75 keV level.

    Notes: Zusammenfassung 1. a) Im Verlauf der Ontogenese von Salamandra salamandra wird bereits bei intrauterinen Stadien von 1,0–2,5 cm Länge sowohl in den Zellen des Nucleus praeopticus als auch in der Pars nervosa fluoreszenzmikroskopisch Neurosekret nachgewiesen. b) Die Intensität der Sekretbildung im Nucleus praeopticus erfährt während der intrauterinen und larvalen Periode eine kontinuierliche Steigerung und erreicht kurz vor Beginn der Metamorphose einen Höhepunkt. c) Zum Zeitpunkt der vollendeten Metamorphose kommt die sekretorische Aktivität des Nucleus praeopticus vorübergehend zum Stillstand. 2. a) In der Pars nervosa tritt in den ersten Tagen des Milieuwechsels ein Sekretschwund ein. b) Bei metamorphosierten und adulten Tieren zeigt die Pars nervosa ihre maximale Speieherung während der Wintermonate. 3. a) Die Unterbrechung des Tractus hypothalamo-hypophyseus bei Larven hat — ebenso wie die Extirpation des Nucleus praeopticus — eine dauernde Metamorphosehemmung im Sinne des Ausbleibens der Rückbildungsvorgänge zur Folge. b) Im Integument schreitet trotz Metamorphosehemmung die Umbildung des Corium langsam fort, so daß dieses nach etwa 3monatiger Versuchsdauer einen annähernd adulten Zustand zeigt. In der Epidermis bleiben die larvalen Merkmale erhalten. c) Nach dem Einsetzen der Metamorphosehemmung sinkt die Schilddrüsenaktivität zunächst völlig ab; im weiteren Ablauf des Versuchs tritt eine Reaktivierung ein, die jedoch nicht die für Rückbildungsvorgänge erforderliche Höhe erreicht. 4. a) Der vom Nucleus praeopticus ausgehende Tractus hypothalamo-hypophyseus leitet das Sekret in folgenden Regionen ab: Über die Fasern der inneren Schicht des Infundibulum zur Pars nervosa. In den Recessus infundibularis. Über die Fasern der äußeren Schicht des Infundibulum zum portalen System der Hypophyse. In die bindegewebige Zwischenschicht der Neuro- und Adenohypophyse sowie in die Pars intermedia. b) Es werden folgende extra-hypothalamo-hypophysäre Bahnen festgestellt: Zur Arteria carotis cerebralis (ramus posterior). Zum Ganglion habenulae. Zur Commissura posterior. Zu den Gefäßen der Septumregion. Zu den Gefäßen der Paraphysenregion. Zu den Kapillaren Bulbus olfactorius. Zum subarachnoidalen Raum des Mittelhirndaches.

    Notes: The response of thymic lymphocytes of the pig to phytohemagglutinin was studied with H3 thymidine in cultures, from 0-72 hours. At the beginning of the culture period 6-18% of lymphocytes were in DNA synthesis. during the first 24 hours a sharp decrease in the number of DNA synthesizing cells was observed in both pha and control cultures, although pha cultures consistently showed small but significantly greater numbers of DNA synthesizing cells. this was followed by a definite peak in DNA synthesis and mitotic response of a minority of the cells in pha cultures between 48-54 hours, whereas in control cultures activity ceased. in addition, a small proportion of the progeny of initially DNA synthesizing medium sized lymphocytes was apparently stimulated by pha and found in mitosis by 48 hours.It was concluded that the thymus contains a fraction of lymphocytes, not in the mitotic cycle, which are capable of being transformed by pha to mitotic activity. the data also suggests some stimulation of cells already in the mitotic cycle.
