Description / Table of Contents: Summary Investigations with surgical transported abdominal testes in 100 rats reveal a varying degree of sensitivity of the individual seminiferous tubulus, or even their various segments, to an increased environmental temperature. This temperature increase probably exerts its destructive effects on the seminiferous epithelium predominantly during the two specific mitotic phases in the spermatogenic series between the appearance of the spermatocytes and the spermatides. It is presumed that “resting seminiferous epithelium”, i.e., tubuli segments with slight or absent mitotic activity, may be able to resist damage from increased temperature for lengthy periods of time.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Tumor cell packets were demonstrated in 10 out of 45 cases from cruor or chickenfat thrombi obtained from the right and/or left heart chambres. Packets classified as atypical were observed 5 times. Using the leucoconcentration method ofHerbeuval, tumor cells were demonstrated with certainty in 3 out of 20 cases, and in 4 further cases, atypical cells or cell packets were found. The potential significance of these findings are discussed. Histological examination of clotted blood taken from the heart chambres at autopsy from patients dying with advanced cancer has proved to be a method rich in results for the morphological examination of tumor particles in the circulatory system.
