The intrinsic viscosity-molecular weight relationship has been determined for synthetic cis-1,4-polyisoprene prepared with butyllithium initiator. The best representation of our results is the equation, [η] = 2.00 × 10-4 (M̄v)0.728, for intrinsic viscosities determined in toluene at 30°C. This relationship agrees, within experimental error, with that obtained for natural rubber by Carter, Scott, and Magat.
