Description / Table of Contents: Summary This paper shows the possibilities for electrical indication of complexometric titrations, discussing in detail the potentiometry, amperometry, voltammetry as well as the conductometry. It furthermore deals with a new indication system by means of a polarized oxide electrode and reports on the first results obtained when using this system for titrating Bi.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The selective determination of metallic iron beside iron oxides may be carried out in a simple and rather accurate manner by treating the analysing sample with a solution of bromine in methanol. By this method, only the metallic iron is dissolved which, after filtering the oxides remained unsolved, may be determined by one of the known titrimetrical or photometrical procedures. The ferro-iron content of the oxide residue may appropriately be determined by the Vanadate titration method according to Wilson. Although a reaction with elementary chlorine at about 400°C quantitatively converts the metallic iron into FeCl3, it also transforms one third of the iron amount present in the form of ferrous oxide into the same compound. Consequently, this method is not suited for a direct determination of the metallic iron content although it affords a useful control of the sum: metallic iron + ferro-iron as obtained by the first mentioned method.

Description / Table of Contents: The precipitation of diphosphate from solutions of secondary alkali diphosphates by means of Ba2+ yields the acid salt Ba7H2P8O28·6H2O. With increasing alkalinity of the solutions, the hydrogen ion content of the Ba salt precipitate decreases. Precipitation from Na4-diphosphate solutions yields the neutral Ba2P2O7·1,5 H2O. From X-ray investigations (no structural differences between the two precipitates being found) it in concluded that the “neutral” Ba diphosphate has a phase range from Ba:H = 2:0 to 7:2.
