Abstract:
Notes:
Summary In 187 dogs we cut through certain branches of the nerves innervating the urinary bladder and we determined the changes caused thereby from a cytometrical and a biochemical point of view. We thus observed that the section of the corresponding ventral and dorsal sacral nerves accompanied by the removal of the sacral ganglions brought about the same changes as those observed after section of the pelvic nerves, i. e., a diminution of the volume of the urinary bladder and an augmentation of the intravesical pressure. Leaving the sacral ganglions and restricting ourselves to the section of the ventral and dorsal roots, we ascertained, however, an augmentation of the vesical volume a diminution of the intravesical pressure. The section of the nerves innervating the urinary bladder brought about a diminution of the consumption of oxygen and of the production of carbonic acid of the vesical wall as well as a diminution of the activity of the succinodehydrase and of the cholinesterase while the activity of the lacto-dehydrase and the speed of incorporation of the P32 into the phosphoric compounds rich in energy augmented. These facts were no more observed after the simultaneous suppression of the sacral ganglions.
