Absorption spectra of some 2-picolyl ketonates in the UV and visible region were taken to study the bond types. The most interesting chelates were those containing the system of 2,4,6-collidine because of steric effects. Two copper chelates have been prepared which in their qualities distinguish clearly from the till now known copper 2-picolylketonates. Bis-(4,6-dimethyl-2-picolyl-methylketonato)-Cu (II) is stable only in form of hydrates. The copper is thought to have a coordination number of 5. This interpretation is supported by spectroscopic work.

Um Aussagen über Bindungszustände zu erhalten, wurden die Absorptionsspektren von 2-Picolylketonaten im UV- und im sichtbaren Bereich aufgenommen. Besonders interessierten dabei Chelate, die das Gerüst des 2,4,6-Collidins enthalten, da für diese starke sterische Effekte zu erwarten waren. Es konnten zwei Kupferchelate mit von den bisher bekannten Kupfer-2-picolylketonaten erheblich abweichenden Eigenschaften isoliert werden. Bis-(4,6-dimethyl-2-picolyl-methyl-ketonato)-Cu (II) ist nur in Form von Hydraten stabil. Für das Kupfer wird dabei die Koordinationszahl 5 angenommen. Diese Deutung steht auch im Einklang mit den spektroskopischen Befunden.
