Abstract Different methods are considered for obtaining radiation damping of synchrotron and betatron oscillations in a strong-focusing accelerator. Formulas are given for the calculation of the damping decrements. It is noted that the curvature of the orbits in the damping magnets must be different from the curvature in the main sectors. It is shown that the sum of damping decrements is the same in all cases and is independent of the type of damping system which is employed.
