Notes: [Auszug] THE work of Appleton and Chapman1 has shown that when the source of atmospheric disturbance is at a distance of about 200 km., an aperiodic or quasi-periodic pulse which represents the high-frqeuency component is usually followed by a slow component. In our recent experimental ...

Notes: [Auszug] USING a powerful polonium source and an especially well-defined geometry, we have recently obtained 850 expansion-chamber photographs showing 90 proton tracks produced on the disintegration of nitrogen by α-particle bombardment. Our arrangement, therefore, gave on the average one disintegration ...

Notes: [Auszug] One of Titan's most intriguing attributes is its copious but featureless atmosphere. The Voyager 1 fly-by and occultation in 1980 provided the first radial survey of Titan's atmospheric pressure and temperature and evidence for the presence of strong zonal winds. It was realized that ...

Notes: [Auszug] Nine red-vented bulbuls were put on a diet of parched gram powder for a fortnight to get them used to the diet. Then they were placed on the scorbutic diet composed as follows : 80 parts of parched gram powder (autoclaved as an aqueous paste at 18 Ib. per sq. in. pressure for 45 min.), 12 parts of ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE existence of multiple disintegration produced by cosmic rays in photographic emulsion has been recorded by Perkins11 and by Occhialini and Powell2. These multiple disintegrations, recorded at high altitudes, were attributed to slow mesons and resulted in the ...

Notes: Summary Surface tension measurements of Aerosol O. T. cent % solution with acetate buffers (pH 3.8 and 5.6) of different ionic strengths at room temperature have been reported, by using a Du Nouy tensiometer. It has been observed thatσ in all the cases falls off abruptly in small concentrations of the surfactant and then slowly afterwards. As the ionic strength of the buffer PH 3.8 increases the surface tension lowering also increases uniformly, i.e.σ-μ curves are linear. On the contrary,σ Vsμ curves for pH 5.6 are not linear. It has been shown that at 0.04μ for pH 5.6 an “optimum stage” is reached, beyond whichσ —C curves remain almost unaltered. Milner's relationship holds good in all the cases for the surfactant solutions but with 0.1μ and 0.2μ of buffer pH 5.6. The break inσ —C curve with 0.1μ and 0.2μ for pH 5.6 indicates a change in bulk constituent rather than any specific surface effect.
