Notes: [Auszug] Dingemanse, Huis in 't Veld and Hartogh-Katz1 recently described the isolation from human urine of a compound, “17-ketosteroid II”, which they suggested was an androsten-3(α)-ol-17-one. Many of the reactions reported for this substance indicated that it might be ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE ease with which hydrogen chloride can be removed from simple aliphatic chloro-compounds by the action of alcoholic caustic alkali has been recognized for many years. It is also possible to split off hydrogen chloride from these compounds by contact catalysis, or simply by pyrolysis, and ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE optical rotatory powers of steroidal compounds can be correlated by means of the method of molecular rotation differences, and such correlation has been shown to be of value in solving certain types of structural problem1. In some cases anomalies of optical rotatory power ...

Notes: [Auszug] Plattner, Heusser, Troxler and Segre1 have recently described the preparation of an interesting new cholesten-3(β)-ol, the acetate of which was said to be formed by the pyrolysis of 3(β)-acetoxycholestan-7-(α)-yl benzoate. On the basis of chemical evidence, the most important ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE correlation of the first and second dissociation constants of symmetrical dicarboxylic acids with the distance apart of the ionizing groups is well known. An experimentally convenient correlation has not previously been proposed for unsymmetrical acids. For symmetrical acids the ...

Notes: [Auszug] VARIOUS theories have been advanced to explain the direction of addition of neutral unsymmetrical radical reagents to unsymmetrical unsaturated systems. Such addition is often ‘abnormal’ as compared with the ‘normal’ additions observed with ionic reagents. Thus Waters1 states ...
