Notizen: Differential cross section (DCS) measurements are reported for scattering of a He atomic beam by crossed beams of C6H6 and C5H5N. Damping of the DCS diffraction oscillations is used to extract reliable anisotropic intermolecular potentials, applying the infinite order sudden approximation (IOSA). The isotropic average for the HeC6H6 potential has a well depth of 3.06 meV and an interatomic separation of 614 pm, while the HeC5H5N potential has a well depth of 3.19 meV and an interatomic separation of 620 pm.

Notizen: Abstract The use of plasma atomic spectrometric methods for the analysis of high-purity refractory powders of Al2O3, SiC and ZrO2 used in the production of advanced ceramics is discussed. Special reference is given to the use of combined procedures including sample decomposition and in the case of ZrO2 to matrix removal as well as to the slurry technique as a direct method in atomic spectrometry with inductively coupled plasmas (ICP). Both the possibilities, limitations and analytical use of the slurry technique are discussed and shown to be related to the particle size of the powder; this should be below the 5–10 μm level. The use of a Simplex method for the optimization of the slurry technique towards obtaining both the highest power of detection and calibration using solutions will be treated for the case of SiC. A critical evaluation of the use of ICP atomic emission and of ICP mass spectrometry is presented.

Notizen: Summary A number of different epidermal growth factor (EGF)-related peptides such as EGF, transforming growth factor α (TGFα), amphiregulin (AR), heregulin (HRG), and cripto-1 (CR-1), are coexpressed to varying degrees in both normal and malignant mammary epithelial cells. However, in general the frequency and level of expression of TGFα, AR, and CR-1 are higher in malignant breast epithelial cells than in normal mammary epithelium. In addition, several of these peptides such as TGFα and AR can function as autocrine and/or juxtacrine growth factors in mammary epithelial cells, and their expression is stringently regulated by mammotrophic hormones such as estrogens, activated proto-oncogenes that have been implicated in the pathogenesis of breast cancer, and other growth factors. The redundancy of expression that is observed for a number of these structurally related peptides in both normal and malignant mammary epithelial cells suggests that some of these peptides may be involved in regulating other aspects of cellular behavior such as differentiation in addition to proliferation.
