Notes: [Auszug] WE find on shaking labelled (radioactive) sodium phosphate of negligible weight with blood, that phosphate ions quickly enter the erythrocytes. In the course of three hours, nearly half the phosphate ions present in the plasma of rabbit's blood diffuses into the corpuscles. When labelled ...

Notes: [Auszug] THE decomposition of creatine phosphoric acid during muscular action, and its rebuilding during rest, has been the subject of numerous detailed investigations. We were interested in the problem, if, and to what extent, creatine phosphoric acid molecules are decomposed and afterwards rebuilt, or ...

Notes: [Auszug] IN view of the discrepancy between the values obtained by different workers for the periods and the intensity of radiation emitted by the radio rare earth elements1–5 after neutron bombardment, we carried out a detailed investigation on this subject and also on the absorption of ...

Notes: [Auszug] Six small gold disks, 15 mm. in diameter and 0.5 mm. thick, were placed in a hole in a cadmium plate and irradiated by slow neutrons, by putting the whole arrangement in a cavity in a large block of paraffin wax, near a radon-beryllium source. On measuring the activities of the successive ...

Notes: [Auszug] SOME years ago, one of us investigated the circulation of lead1 in plants using a radioactive lead isotope as indicator. Recent developments in nuclear chemistry make it possible to prepare radioactive isotopes of several of the light elements which, in contrast with lead, are the ...

Notes: [Auszug] RECENT progress in the production of radioactive isotopes by neutron bombardment makes the radioactive isotope of phosphorus 15P32 easily accessible. This isotope, which has a half-life value of 17 days, can be utilised as an indicator of inactive phosphorus in the ...

Notes: [Auszug] IN their pioneer work on artificial radioactivity through neutron bombardment, Fermi and his collaborators announced the discovery of the activity of some of the rare earth elements, namely, of lanthanum, praseodymium, neodymium, samarium and gadolinium. Recently, Sugden1 found ...
