Notes: Abstract A case of heterotopic or combined intrauterine and tubal ectopic pregnancy is described following in vitro fertilization and the transfer of five four-cell embryos. The phenomenon is known to be related to ovarian stimulation by gonadotropin therapy, and there is an increased risk with underlying tubal disease. This patient had both variables. Techniques applied at the time of embryo transfer are also implicated, namely, the use of culture medium with 50% maternal serum to convey the embryos to the uterus, the catheterization method, and the position of the patient during transfer.

Notes: Abstract Ultrasound-guided transcervical tubal cannulation (TC-TEST) was used to replace embryos to the fallopian tubes in 17 women whose fallopian tubes were inaccessible by the abdominal route but where at least one tube was shown to be freely patent on a preliminary hsterosalpingogram investigation. In two further cases, the fallopian tubes proved impossible to cannulate, and along with two instances where difficulty was experienced, a common underlying feature was an arcuate or septate configuration of the uterus. Three pregnancies ensued (17%) in cases where the procedure was free of difficulty and the transfers were demonstrably intratubal: two went to term and the third resulted in an ectopic pregnancy. The procedure has so far not shown a benefit over conventional IVF-ET and probably should be avoided in women with any type of tubal disorder.

Notes: Abstract In the fusion reactions90Zr(89Y,p)178Pt and90Zr(89Y,α)175Ir the sum energy of all emittedγ rays as well as the energy of the promptly emitted charged particle were measured. From these data the mass-excess values for the evaporation residues178Pt and175Ir were extracted to beΔ(178Pt)=(−32.4±1.1)MeV/c2 andΔ(175Ir)=(−32.0±1.2) MeV/c2. The method provides absolute mass values for nuclides far from stability which can be produced in fusion reactions as evaporation residues in the 1p or 1α channel. The sources of the experimental uncertainties of the method are discussed, and the potential for considerable improvements is outlined.

Notes: Abstract For the compound nucleus179Au formed at an excitation energy of 26 MeV in the fusion reaction90Zr+89Y, the energy spectra of promptly emitted protons,α particles andγ rays were measured in concidence with the evaporation residues. On the basis of the measured total decay energy, the 1p and 1α decay channels were separated from all other evaporation-residue channels. The energy spectra and absolute cross sections, together with previously measured excitation functions for various decay channels, are successfully described by statisticalmodel calculations with the Monte Carlo code CODEX.
