Notes: Summary We studied the in vitro metabolism of labelled14C-testosterone in 6 malignant and 2 benignant human breast tumors and determined the DHT-receptor. In all experiments testosterone was converted to androstendione (2.2–5.8%/100 mg wet weight). In 5 out of 8 cases testosterone served as a substrate for the formation of dihydrotestosterone (0.8 to 2.8%/100 mg). No receptor for DHT could be found in cases where dihydrotestosterone formation was detectable. In contrast to receptor positive tumors, no reduction of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone was observed.
