    Notizen: Summary Thirty percent of adult patients with Hodgkin's disease fail primary treatment or relapse after treatment. Whereas overall mortality for Hodgkin's disease is about 20%, half the patients who relapse will die. Among patients with refractory or relapsing disease, about a third can be rescued by conventional salvage treatment. Unfortunately, except for patients with late relapse, remission after conventional salvage treatment is generally not of long duration. However, durable complete remissions can now be achieved in nearly a third of patients with refractory or relapsing disease by means of very aggressive (myeloablative) chemotherapy with consecutive autologous bone marrow transplantation (aBMT). The rate of durable complete remissions seems to be even higher if previous exposure to chemotherapeutic agents is not in excess of two different treatment protocols (optimal timing of aBMT) and if responsiveness to cytotoxic drugs is preserved (low degree of drug resistance). Bone marrow transplantation should be restricted to patients whose resulting long-term prognosis justifies such radical treatment. Reflecting ongoing clinical therapy-studies, in particular in Germany, the role of bone marrow transplantation in a general concept of salvage treatment should be pointed out. Patients should be considered candidates if they fail alternating primary chemotherapy or develop an early relapse after this treatment, but still show responsiveness to chemotherapeutic agents.

    Notizen: Summary The safety of drugs in hepatic porphyrias has largely been established by clinical experience, which is very limited in the case of antineoplastic agents. We administered three cycles of polychemotherapy consisting of daunorubicin, cytarabine and 6-thioguanine, and modified supportive care to a 33-year-old Turkish woman suffering from acute myelogenous leukemia. The urinary excretion of total porphyrins, porphobilinogen, and aminolevulinic acid was continuously monitored. Excreation of these metabolites was permanently elevated, but the values were comparatively low during cytotoxic therapy while peak values were recorded at the onset of fever during bone marrow aplasia; yet there were no clinical signs of porphyritic attacks at that time. A few potentially unsafe drugs were tolerated without an increase in porphyrin excretion. Although the susceptibility to drugs is highly variable in patients with hepatic porphyrias, the treatment of malignancy in these patients seems justified as long as porphyrin excretion under therapy is not grossly elevated over baseline values and appropriately modified supportive care is administered.

    Notizen: Abstract The photocurrent in crossed fields is characterized by the feedback of the transverse ambipolar drift of the excess carriers on the particle velocities in the longitudinal direction. In extrinsic semiconductors this reduction of the particle velocities may cause a negative photocurrent which is here discussed for the case of low plasma densities considering the influence of the ambipolar particle motions, the diffusion currents, the surface recombination, the bulk lifetime, the sample thickness, and the physical magnetoresistance. Numerical calculations were performed forn-InSb at 85 K.

    Notizen: Abstract This paper shows that many features of the photon-drag voltage generated by illumination ofp-germanium with 10.6 μm radiation can be understood on the basis of a parabolic but anisotropic band-structure model. The group velocities of the heavy and light holes participating in the optical transitions are obtained by an analysis of the conservation laws. Since the nonequilibrium hole densities in both bands depend directly on the momentum relaxation times in the determinant equations of continuity, these times are the parameters with the strongest influence on the numerical results. The photon-drag voltage consists of components longitudinal and transverse with respect to the axis of illumination. For the longitudinal components, good agreement between our theoretical results and experimental data from the literature is achieved if the crystal is illuminated along a [100] or [111] direction. Though a transition probability independent of light polarisation has been assumed, the transverse effect (illumination along [111]) can be computed for special measuring conditions. The calculated effects of anisotropy are higher than known from experiments possibly due to the approximations used for the valence bands and the transition probability.

    Notizen: Abstract The photocurrent in n-InSb at 85K was measured as function of the applied longitudinal voltage and an additionally applied transverse magnetic field. In the driftconfiguration the photoionized electron-hole plasma was driven into the sample volume, and negative photocurrents resulted from the negative feedback of this motion. With the magnetic field being reversed, in the Suhl configuration, only positive photocurrents were measured. All results are in agreement with the theory in [1]. They were used to determine recombination coefficients in n-InSb, and, principally, the transverse diffusion coefficientD ⊥. As first observed in [13],D ⊥ proved to be anomalously enhanced above classical values if plasma instabilities were generated in the samples.
