Summary Allylisopropylacetamide (AIA) administration to rats increases δ-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) synthetase activity and porphyrin levels in liver. Thiophene-2-carboxylic acid in AIA-treated rats markedly decreases liver ALA synthetase and porphyrin values. Thiophene-2-carboxylic acid exerts a protective effect against porphyria experimentally induced by AIA administration.
