Notizen: Abstract 4C DNA values have been estimated in 16 cultivars ofCajanus cajan by cytophotometry. The values range between 6.19 pg to 7.97 pg, a 23.6% variation. The cultivars form four groups which differ significantly from each other but have insignificant difference within them. The implications of this variability with respect to the heterogeneity and origin of this legume crop are discussed.

Notizen: Variations of the relative intensities of the Lα1, Lβ1 and Lβ2,3,15 lines of gold on their photoexcitation with the continua of x-ray tubes with W and Mo targets were measured at operating voltages from 15 to 20 kV. The standard procedure for calculating the fluorescence intensity of an x-ray line excited by a polychromatic x-ray beam was suitably modified to calculate the relative intensities of these lines. The factors responsible for the differences between the experimental and calculated values are discussed.

Notizen: Variations of the relative intensities of the Lα1, Lβ1 and Lβ2,3,15 lines of gold from an x-ray tube with its operating voltage in the near-threshold region of Au L subshells were studied. Large variations in the intensity ratios were observed for the lines originating from different subshells, which attain limiting values at high excitation overvoltages. These variations are primarily due to the variation with the electron beam energy of the realative numbers of initial ionizations created by the electron beam in different subshells. Attempts have been made to explain these variations by calculating the relative intensity values of these lines using various empirical expressions available.
