Notizen: Dirac-Fock balanced Gaussian basis calculations that employ an extended nucleus model (see Ref. 11) have been performed on Be and Ne atoms by systematically enlarging the basis set. As expansion size increases, the total energy smoothly converges toward the numerical Dirac-Fock limit from above. The balanced expansion method does not introduce any of the variational instabilities that have plagued the early Dirac-Fock basis expansion calculations.

Notizen: Analytical derivatives are dependent upon derivatives of the Ao basis set and the MO relaxation. By separating these effects on derivatives, they can be individually studied. We show that the coupled-cluster single and double (CCSD) model introduces most of the MO relaxation effects required by gradients, hessians, dipole, and polarizability derivatives. This finding should make it possible to simplify analytical derivative evaluation at the CCSD level.

Notizen: Expressions for static and dynamic properties in coupled-cluster (CC) theory are derived. In the static case, using diagrammatic techniques, it is shown how consideration of orbital relaxation effects in the theory introduces higher-order correlation effects. For the dynamic case, excitation energy expressions are obtained without consideration of orbital relaxation effects and shown to be equivalent to an equation of motion (EOM) approach subject to a coupled-cluster ground-state wave function and an excitation operator consisting of single and double excitations. Illustrative applications for excited states of ethylene are reported.

Notizen: Relativistic coupled cluster (CC) calculations are performed for the atomic systems Be, Ne(6+), Ar(14+), and Sn(46+). The CC equations through CCSDT are solved within a space spanned by balanced s1/2 gaussian spinors to obtain the s-correlation contributions. No significant contribution of higher correlation effects beyond MBPT (4) is observed within this s1/2-spinor approximation.

Notizen: A new formalism and algorithm is developed for solving the general-order time-dependent Hartree-Fock (TDHF) problem. It is shown that for any order a generalization of the TDHF equations can be derived where all lower-order solutions constitute a constant term. This makes it very easy to obtain high-order solutions. As the space required for the mapping of density matrices to Fock matrices in a problem of a giver order is largely reduced, we can perform the most time-consuming steps within the core memory of the machine and easily manipulate vector products via optimum routines. The second hyperpolarizability γ is obtained from the secondorder TDHF solution via a 2n rule. The formalism also allows for expressing all terms in the equation diagrammatically, which provides additional physical insight and a more systematic evaluation of terms. To illustrate the method, TDHF results are presented for trans-butadiene and carbon monoxide for several optical processes, including correlation corrections to their static hyperpolarizabilities obtained via coupled cluster (CCSD) and many-body perturbation theory. The hybrid TDHF/CCSD method provides excellent agreement with the DC-SHG experiments (χ||(2) = 11.4 x 10-32 esu/mol compared to 12.9 ± 11.4 × 10-32 esu/mol and χ||(3) = 149 compared to 144 ± 4 × 10-39 esu/mol).

Notizen: Minimum-energy structures of clusters of one sodium atom and as many as three water molecules have been calculated by combining the method of ab initio Monte Carlo simulated annealing with conventional optimization methods. 6-31G* basis sets have been employed, and each structure was optimized at the MP2 (frozen core) level of theory. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
