Zusammenfassung Der Verschluß-Ikterus ist ein Symptom einer ernsten Erkrankung; ihm liegt ein multifaktorielles Geschehen zugrunde. Die für die erfolgreiche Therapie so notwendige Frühdiagnose ist oft nicht möglich, da es meist nur unbestimmte Frühsymptome gibt. Die einzig erfolgversprechende Therapie ist die kurative Operation. Dies bedeutet beim benignen Verschluß die Frühsanierung und beim malignen Verschluß die radikale Tumorentfernung.

Summary Obstructive jaundice is a sign of serious disease; it is based on multifactorial events. Early diagnosis, which is of vital importance to successful treatment, is often impossible since in most of the cases there are only nonspecific prodromal symptoms. The only treatment promising success is the curative operation. In benign obstruction this means early sanitation, and in malignant obstruction eradication of the tumor.
