Notes: Abstract An apparatus to measure the relative transit time of red cells through the aperture of the Coulter-type blood cell counter was developed. The times measured showed a high correlation with the diameters of the red cells tested. The findings suggested that the apparatus would be suitable for determining relative cell diameter. As a second experiment, a comparison of the transit times under two different aspiration pressures was carried out. Time ratios at two different aspiration pressures appeared to reflect red cell deformability.
