Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Summary The results of electrophoretic and immunoelectrophoretic examination of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from patients with encephalomalacia are presented in two groups that differ in the storage demonstrable by scintigraphy but not in the composition of the CSF. Impairment of the blood-cerebrospinal barrier was observed in 52.1% of patients in one group and in 57.1% of patients in the other. No connection was detected between the impairment of the blood-cerebrospinal barrier and that of the blood-brain barrier diagnosed by sicntigraphy. Diffusion processes are discussed as a possible explanation for the scintigraphic focal symptom.
