Notizen: Electrical properties, such as dissipation factor and electric conductivity, were studied for silicone rubber sheets. The specimens were prepared by the reaction of α,ω-dihydroxypolysiloxane with ethoxysilane, using dibutyltin dilaurate as a catalyst, at a relative humidity of about 100% at various temperatures and for various reaction times. It was found that the electrical properties were a function of the vulcanizing conditions; i.e., the further the vulcanization proceeded, the higher the dissipation factor and the electric conductivity. A reaction describing deterioration in electrical properties was then considered. Infrared spectroscopic studies on dibutyltin dilaurate showed that the dibutyltin dilaurates were partly hydrolyzed to lauric acid and dibutyltin dihydroxide. It was concluded that electrical property deteriorations, which were caused by changes in the vulcanizing conditions, were due to dibutyltin dilaurate hydrolysis. However, since the decomposed products were finally oxidized at elevated temperatures in an oxygen atmosphere, with a subsequent change to electrically inactive compounds, the initial electrical properties were recovered.

Notizen: The electrical conductivity and the dissipation factor of silicone rubber vulcanized by the condensation reaction of α,ω-dihydroxypolysiloxane with ethoxysilane, using dibutyltin dilaurate as a catalyst, were studied. Rubber specimens, with different amounts of catalyst, were prepared using various vulcanization times and then heat treated in dry or wet atmospheres containing oxygen and nitrogen. The electrical properties of these specimens were measured at 20 to 200°C in dry air. The amounts of residual catalysts and unreacted ethoxy groups were analyzed by colorimetric and gas chromatographic methods. Factors influencing the specimen electrical properties were discussed in terms of preparation conditions and amount of residual compounds.

Notizen: Influence of preparation conditions on the electrical conductivity, dissipation factor, and hardness of silicone rubber vulcanized by the condensation reaction using dibutyltin dilaurate as catalyst was studied. Thickness of rubber specimens and amounts of catalyst added were varied. Electrical properties were measured at 20-200°C for rubber specimens heat-treated at 200°C for 10 h under various conditions, for example, heat treated in air, but in a sealed state in order to inhibit volatilizaions of the catalyst and vaporization of by-products, or heat treated in a dry nitrogen atmosphere, in order to avoid oxidation and hydrolysis of the catalyst. Furthermore, the catalysts and byproducts were volatilized in air from both surfaces of the specimen in order to accelerate volatilization. Degradation of silicon rubber with heat treatment was elucidated by hardness measurements and hardness dependence of the electrical conductivity of the specimens was analyzed.
