Notes: The model developed predicts a priori potential errors associated with the energy trace recorded by an isoperibol differential power scanning calorimeter in the measurement of heat of adsorption of H2 on Pt and Pd catalysts. The uptake of H2 by the catalyst sample was approximated by a diffusion-limited quasi-steady-state moving boundary model. This approximation is valid only if the parameter [(adsorption capacity of cat. sample)/(inlet conc. of H2)] is extremely large (∼ 24). The effect of flow rate, amount of H2 adsorbed, sink temperature, and the thermal conductivity of the adsorbate mixture was examined. Model predictions indicate that the error in the energy trace recorded by the DSC is appreciable: if a large difference exists between the thermal conductivity of the inert carrier, Ar (K = 0.017 J/m·K·s), and the adsorbate, H2 (k = 0.174 J/m·K·s); if the heat sink temperature is much lower (∼ 90 K) than the measurement temperature. However, these errors can be eliminated by matching the thermal conductivity of the inert carrier and adsorbate, such as He (k = 0.143 J/m·K·s) and H2 (k = 0.174 J/m·K·s). The results agree well with the experimental observations of Vannice et al. (1987) on high-purity Pt and Pd powder and supported Pt catalysts, if the H2 uptake by the catalyst sample in the calorimeter is small (≤2 μmol).

Description / Table of Contents: Untersuchungen zur Hydrolyse des NitrosotrichlororheniumsHydratisiertes Nitrosotrichlororhenium, Re(NO)Cl3 · xH2O, kann nicht zur wasserfreien Verbindung getrocknet werden.
Notes: Hydrated nitrosotrichlororhenium, Re(NO)Cl3 · sH2O cannot be desiccated to the anhydrous product. Hydrogen chloride is expelled and [Re(H2O)(NO)(OH)Cl2] and [Re(H2O)0.5(NO) (OH)2Cl] are produced depending on the conditions of the reactions. Potentiometric studies have indicated that in aqueous ethanolic solutions, the trichloro complex rapidly liberates two equivalents of hydrogen ions while the release of chloride ions are time dependent. Two equivalents of chloride ions are, however, present in a equilibrium system. The third chlorine atom is rigidly bound to the rhenium atom. A chloride bridged structure has been proposed.

Description / Table of Contents: Herstellung und Eigenschaften einiger sehr stabiler Nitrosylkomplexe des Rheniums werden beschrieben: ReCl3(NO), Re(OH)3(NO), M2ReCl5(NO), wobei M = K, Cs, NH4.
Notes: Preparation and properties of several highly stable nitroso complexes of rhenium viz. ReCl3(NO), Re(OH)3(NO)3 M2ReCl5(NO) where M is Cs, K and NH4 are described. These are analogous to the corresponding ruthenium complexes. The oxidation number of the ‘ReNO’ unit as a whole, is +3 but that of the rhenium atom cannot be determined. The nitric oxide stretching band lies within the range of 1710-1920 cm-1. The cesium and potassium salts are weakly paramagnetic at room temperature.

Description / Table of Contents: Reaktion von NO mit vierwertigen RheniumverbindungenStickoxid reagiert mit ReO2 bei 70-80°C quantitativ unter Bildung von Re(NO)(OH)3, ReO4- und NH4+· [Re(NO)Cl5]2- und ReO4- werden im stöchiometrischen Verhältnis sowohl bei der Reaktion von NO mit einer Suspension von ReO2 in 6 n HCl als auch in wäßrig-äthanolischer Suspension mit einem Gemisch von NO und HCl bei 70-80°C gebildet. Beim Überleiten von NO bei 220°C über Phenanthroliniumhexa-halogenorhenat(IV) wird Nitrosylhalogenid, Halogenwasserstoff und [Re(NO)(phen)Cl3] bzw. [Re(NO)(phen)Br3] gebildet.
Notes: Nitric oxide reacts with hydrated ReO2 in aqueous suspension at 70-80°C to produce quantitatively Re(NO)(OH)3, ReO4- and NH4+. [Re(NO)Cl5]2- and ReO4- are produced in stoichiometric quantities by the reaction of either NO with ReO2 suspension in 6 N HCl or by the action of a mixture of NO and HCl with an aqueous ethanolic or aqueous suspension of ReO2 at 70-80°C. Passage of NO over 1,10-phenanthrolinium hexahalorhenate(IV) at 220°C produces nitrosyl halide, hydrogen halide and [Re(NO) (phen)Cl3] or [Re(NO)(phen)Br3].
