Notes: Summary Crystalloids found in salivary duct cysts of the human parotid gland were examined by scanning electron microscopical observations with electron probe X-ray microanalysis. The cystic spaces were filled with numerous crystalloids which had a variety of forms with slight eosinophilic and glassy appearance. Scanning electron microscopically, crystalloids were hexagonal and rhombohedral in shape, and cutting the surface showed a polycyclic structure or regular parallel lamination. By electron probe X-ray microanalysis, sulphur was the only detected element. The present study suggests that crystalloids resulted from deposition from supersaturated saliva containing sulphur containing compounds into the cystic lumen or into epithelial cytoplasm.

Notes: Summary Unusual multiple lesions of jaws in a middle-aged woman with all classic manifestations of Gardner's syndrome are reported. Clinical examination revealed a diffuse swelling of the mandible and maxilla with bone-like hardness and numerous radiopaque lesions scattered throughout both mandible and maxilla. Impaction of the molar teeth was revealed by roentogenographic examination. Histopathologically, the multiple jaw lesions consisted of trabecular proliferation of hardtissue which more closely resembled cementum than immature bone or osteoid. It was found to be united with the cementum of tooth-roots through obliteration of the periodontal ligament. The present lesions do not fit into any of the distinct entities of cemental lesions described.

Notes: Summary This manuscript presents an unusual radiographic manifestation of multiple myeloma occurring in the mandible. A 40-year-old man, referred to our hospital, presented with a swelling of the right mandible. Microscopic examination and laboratory tests confirmed the diagnosis of multiple myeloma. Radiographic examination revealed a well-developed sun-ray appearance suspected in osteogenic sarcoma. This observation suggested the possibility of the periosteal reaction in this case of multiple myeloma.
