    Notes: Abstract History-dependent dimensional behavior of paper has been formulated within the framework of the general linear theory of viscoelasticity and the classical lamination theory. The effect of the drying history of the papermaking process was incorporated by introducing the “residual stress” in the reference configuration which was taken at the final drying stage in this study. This permits us to account for complex dimensional and form changes of paper in the converting and end use processes. In order to determine the prediction performance of the computer simulation model developed, in-plane and out-of-plane dimensional responses under cyclic humidity changes were predicted on the basis of hygroviscoelastic data of paper. The simulation examples demonstrated typical irreversible dimensional responses of paper both for the in-plane dimensional change and the curvature change (curl). The computer code can easily deal with the non-uniform distribution of 1) anisotropic viscoelastic properties, 2) hygrothermal properties, and 3) moisture and temperature through the thickness.

    Notes: An overview of the synthesis of optically active polymers due to main-chain chirality based on the configurational arrangement in cyclopolymerization and cyclocopolymerization is presented. The template having chiral twist transmitted its chirality to the main chain in the intramolecular cyclization of divinyl monomers to form the enantiomeric racemo cyclic units. The asymmetric cyclocopolymerization produced the polymers which were optically active even after cleaving the template. The synthesis of optically active polymers from achiral monomers using a slight amount of chiral initiator was achieved by the enantioselective cyclopolymerization. The cyclopolymerization capable of controlling stereochemistry of the cyclic constitutional units was one of useful means for asymmetric polymerization.

    Notes: Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) is often used in injection molding for products that demand high heat resistance. However, proper control of its flow properties is difficult. To improve flow behavior some internal lubricants are usually used, but they reduce heat resistance of the products. Upper critical solution temperature (UCST) lubricants were found to enhance its flow properties, and also high heat resistance was retained. They act as internal lubricants during processing, improving flow and phase separation during cooling. Therefore they are present essentially as inert filler and thus have little effect on heat distortion temperature.
