Notes: Abstract The purpose of the investigation was: 1) to derive the characteristic curves of Kodak, DuPont, Fuji, and Konica duplicating films; and 2) to compare their sensitivities, inherent contrasts, and latitudes. For statistical analysis the multivariate general linear model in Systat 4.1 with Sygraph was run on a Northgate 386/20 microcomputer. Kodak film had the highest Dmax, followed by those of Fuji, Konica and DuPont films. Fuji film was the most sensitive at higher densities whereas Kodak film was the most sensitive at lower densities, Konica and DuPont films were comparatively less sensitive. DuPont film had the highest inherent contrast, followed by Kodak, Konica, and Fuji films. Fuji film had the widest latitude, followed by Konica, Kodak, and DuPont films. The results of the experiment should not be construed as a recommendation for any particular type of duplicating film. The results might have been different if a different range of densities had been evaluated.
