Notes: Summary In rats in urethane-anaesthesia the intravenous injection of physostigmine 0.5 mg/kg produced a typical rise in blood pressure (hypertensive reaction) which was accompanied by a marked increase in electrical activity in the preganglionic fibres of the cervical sympathetic nerve. Obidoxime and Pralidoxime in doses up to 50 mg/kg i.v. which are both capable to counteract an organophosphate poisoning as antidotes failed to affect the reaction to physostigmine described here. The contradictory results given by the literature are discussed.
