Abstract Open carpal tunnel release with a long incision is indicated in cases of severe tenosynovitis, trauma or infection. Carpal tunnel release with a short incision (1.5 cm) is a simpler procedure than the endoscopic operation and has the same long-term results and a lower complication rate than the endoscopic method.

Zusammenfassung Die offene Karpaltunnelspaltung mit großer Schnittführung ist bei schweren Tenosynovialitiden, Traumen oder Infektionen indiziert. Die offene Karpaltunnelspaltung mit kleiner Schnittführung (1,5 cm) ist technisch weniger aufwendig als die endoskopische Karpaltunnelspaltung und zeigt nach bisherigen vergleichenden Untersuchungen des nationalen und internationalen Schrifttums gegenüber der endoskopischen Methode gleiche Langzeitergebnisse.
