Notizen: Steady incompressible flow around objects in general coordinates is investigated. First, an overview of the popular approaches to discretize incompressible flow problems in general coordinates is given. It has been chosen to solve the equations on a staggered grid with contravariant flux unknowns and pressure as primitive variables. A solution method multigrid is used, with a line smoother able to deal with stretched cells. For flow problems around objects solved with a single block discretization periodic boundary, conditions are prescribed and adaptations for the discretization and the multigrid method are given. Steady flow around a circular cylinder and around an ellipse are presented. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notizen: Cell-centered discretization of the convection-diffusion equation with large Péclet number Pe is analyzed, in the presence of a parabolic boundary layer. It is shown theoretically how, by suitable mesh refinement in the boundary layer, the accuracy can be made to be uniform in Pe, at the cost of a IogPe increase of the number of grid cells, in the case of upwind discretization. Numerical experiments are presented indicating that this can in practice also be achieved with a Pe-independent number of grid cells, both with upwind and central discretization, and with vertex-centered discretization. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notizen: The solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in general two- and three-dimensional domains using a multigrid method is considered. Because a great variety of boundary-fitted grids may occur, robustness is at a premium. Therefore a new ILU smoother called CILU (collective ILU) is described, based on r-transformations. In CILU the matrix that is factorized is block-structured, with blocks corresponding to the set of physical variables. A multigrid algorithm using CILU as smoother is investigated. The performance of the algorithm in two and three dimensions is assessed by numerical experments. The results show that CILU is a good smoother for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations discretized on general non-orthogonal curvilinear grids.
