    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Durch Vergleich der Infrarotspektren von rezentem Sepiamelanin und dem Inhalt der Tintenbeutel fossiler Tintenfische wird gezeigt, daß das 180 Millionen Jahre alte Material wahrscheinlich unverändertes Melanin ist. Das Verhalten der beiden Substanzen beim Erhitzen ist identisch. Andere Analysenverfahren zur Identifizierung des Melanins werden kritisch gesichtet. Sie sind ungeeignet zum spezifischen Nachweis.
    Notes: Abstract The comparison of the infrared spectra of recent sepia melanine and of the content of the ink sac of fossilized squids indicates that the 180 million years old substance is unchanged melanine. Both substances behave identically on heating. Other procedures for identification of melanine are surveyed critically. They are not suited for a specific detection of melanine.
