    Description / Table of Contents: γ-radiolysis of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and chlorosubstituted poly(methacrylates) gives radicals with comparable nine-line-EPR spectra. The transformations of the molecules were discussed in light of the quantitative differences in the accumulation processes. EPR-spectra at liquid helium temperatures confirm the hypothesis of allyl radical accumulation in PMMA.
    Notes: Die im Poly(methylmethacrylat) (PMMA) und in chlorsubstituierten Poly(methacrylaten) radiolytisch erzeugten Radikale ergeben ähnliche EPR-Neunlinienspektren. Molekülumwandlungen zur Deutung der quantitativ unterschiedlichen Akkumulationsprozesse werden diskutiert. EPR-Spektren bei Heliumtemperaturen bestätigen die Hypothese der Akkumulation von Allylradikalen im PMMA.

    Description / Table of Contents: XPS investigations and determination of the electron beam sensitivity revealed a crosslinking mechanism via halogen elimination. The crosslinking effect is higher with an admixture of bisazide. The halogen elimination induced by irradiation of the 4-halogenphenol novolac resists increases in the order fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine.
    Notes: XPS-Untersuchungen und die Bestimmung der Elektronenstrahlempfindlichkeit an Halogenphenolnovolak-Resistschichten ergaben, daß ein Vernetzungsmechanismus über Halogeneliminierung abläuft. Durch Bisazidzusatz wird der Vernetzungseffekt erhöht. Die strahlenchemisch induzierte Halogeneliminierung der untersuchten 4-Halogenphenolnovolake steigt in der Reihenfolge Fluor-Chlor-Brom-Iod.

    Description / Table of Contents: Die Herstellung von Polymer-Metall-Precursors, ihr thermoanalytischer Abbau sowie ihre Umwandlung zu hochtemperatursupraleitenden Y-Ba-Cu-O- bzw. Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O-Verbindungen werden beschrieben. Die dünnen Precursorfilme wurden mittels Elektronenstrahllithographie strukturiert und danach in die HTS-Phasen überführt.
    Notes: We report on the preparation of polymer metal precursors, their thermoanalytical degradation and their transformation to high temperature superconducting (HTS) Y-Ba-Cu-O or Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O compounds. The thin precursor film was patterned by electron beam lithography and subsequently transformed to HTS phases.

    Notes: Copolymers of methyl methacrylate with methacrylic acid [P(MMA/MA)] are interesting resist materials for microlithography. At moderate baking temperatures, these copolymers undergo an intramolecular cyclization, yielding terpolymers containing anhydride moieties. This process has striking consequences for the dissolution behavior and results in higher ketone solubilities. The dissolution rates in methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and in mixtures with ethyl glycol (EG) correlate in an Arrhenius-like manner with the reciprocal baking temperatures. Two distinct temperature ranges with different slopes between 130-180°C and 180-230°C are found. This is in good agreement with other findings, indicating a different mechanism of anhydride formation in these temperature regions. The activation energies for the dissolution of P(MMA/MA) in EG or EG/MEK mixtures are about 17 kcal/mol and those of the thermally treated material in MEK or MEK/EG or mixtures of MEK with methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) are in the range of 20-30 kcal/mol. For the investigation of the Mn dependence, γ-irradiated probes of the copolymer were used. We obtained the usual exponential Mn dependence with an exponent of 0.7-0.8 in MIBK and 0.3-0.4 in EG. Our findings are in agreement with a “relaxation-controlled” dissolution behavior, especially for the anhydride-containing terpolymer. No residual layers or pronounced inhibition periods indicative for gel-layer formation, however, could be found. We suggest a normal dissolution process with a very small gel layer. For the copolymer in an alcohol-containing solvent, a stress-driven dissolution behaviour is more likely. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

    Description / Table of Contents: The reactions of radicals formed by 60Co irradiation in poly(methyl methacrylate) and copolymers of methyl methacrylate and methacrylic acid (70/30) have been investigated. Further radical formation was found to occur with increasing temperature, amounting to 10% of the radical formation by γ-radiolysis. The validity of the model of a wide distribution of reaction rates is discussed.
    Notes: Die Reaktionen der Radikale, die durch 60Co-Strahlung in Polymethylmethacrylat und in Copolymerisaten aus Methylmethacrylat und Methacrylsäure (70/30 Masse-%) erzeugt werden, wurden untersucht. Es wird nachgewiesen, daß durch Temperaturerhöhung weitere Radikale erzeugt werden, die 10% der durch γ-Radiolyse gebildeten Radikalkonzentrationen erreichen. Die Anwendbarkeit des Modells der breiten Verteilung der Reaktionsgeschwindigkeiten wird diskutiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: By esterification of poly(vinyl alcohol) with boric acid the polarizability perpendicular to the direction of stretching is increased. Using partially saponified poly(vinyl acetate) for the esterfication provides the possibility of receiving an optimum reduction in birefringence and at the same time an improvement in the resistance of the foils to climatic conditions. By this method the range of application of poly(vinyl alcohol) derivatives for the production of birefringent foils can be extended.
    Notes: Durch Veresterung von Poly(vinylalkohol) mit Borsäure wird eine Erhöhung der Polarisierbarkeit senkrecht zur Reckrichtung erzielt. Bei Verwendung von partiell verseiftem Poly(vinylacetat) zur Veresterung wird neben einer optimalen Herabsetzung der Doppelbrechung gleichzeiting eine Verbesserung der Klimastabilität der Folien erreicht. Die Einsetzbarkeit von Poly(vinylalkohol)-Derivaten für die Herstellung von doppelbrechenden Folien wird dadurch erweitert.

    Description / Table of Contents: For the first time we succeeded in pointing out the quadratic electrooptical effect (Kerr-effect) in polymer solids. The investigated polymers containing nitrophenyl groups have Kerr-constants up to B = 800 ċ 10-7 esE-2 cm-1. These are twice as high as the constant of nitrobenzene. Electrooptical measurements of Kerr-aktive polymers provide a further possibility for the investigation of motion processes in macromolecular solids.
    Notes: Es ist erstmalig gelungen, den quadratischen elektrooptischen Effekt (Kerr-Effekt) in Polymerfestkörpern nachzuweisen. Die untersuchten nitrophenylhaltigen Polymere haben Kerrkonstanten bis zu B = 800 ċ 10-7 esE-2 cm-1. Diese sind damit doppelt so hoch wie die des Nitrobenzens. Die elektrooptischen Messungen an Kerr-aktiven Polymeren eröffnen eine weitere Möglichkeit zur Untersuchung von Bewegungsvorgängen in makromolekularen Festkörpern.

    Description / Table of Contents: Polymeric epoxides produced by copolymerization of cyclohexyl methacrylate and glycidyl methacrylate form together with diaryliodonium salts and triarylsulfonium salts clear coatings on Cr-surfaces. At irradiation with λ = 250 to 300 nm the polymer is crosslinked by the cationic photolysis products of the onium salts. The sulfonium salts are more effective initiators than iodonium salts. For fast crosslinking a less nucleophilic anion, e.g. hexafluorophosphate, is necessary. The catalysator formation can be sensitized by anthracene, 9.10-phenanthrene quinone, benzophenone, and benzoinisopropylether. The sensitivity of these systems is similar to other used photopolymer systems.
    Notes: Durch Copolymerisation von Cyclohexylmethacrylat und Glycidylmethacrylat gewonnene polymere Epoxide bilden in Verbindung mit einigen Diaryliodonium- und Triarylsulfoniumsalzen auf Cr-beschichteten Glassubstraten homogene transparente Schichten. Während der Bestrahlung mit Licht der Wellenlänge λ = 250 bis 300 nm wird das Polymer durch die kationischen Photolyseprodukte der Oniumsalze vernetzt. Die Sulfoniumsalze sind dabei effektiver als die Iodoniumsalze. Für eine optimale Vernetzung ist ein wenig nucleophiles Anion, wie z. B. Hexafluorophosphat, notwendig. Die Bildung des Katalysators kann durch Anthracen, 9.10-Phenanthrenchinon, Benzophenon und Benzoinisopropylether sensibilisiert werden, womit der Empfindlichkeitsbereich der Lacksysteme auf 360 bis 420 nm ausdehnbar ist. Die Empfindlichkeit der Systeme ist vergleichbar mit denen anderer, bereits verwendeter Photopolymer systeme.
