Notes: Abstract Following Ebin and Marsden the Navier-Stokes equation is viewed as a perturbation of a geodesic flow on the group of volume preserving diffeomorphisms on a compact Riemannian manifold. Existence and uniqueness of bounded solutions for all position time is shown by taking a higher order diffusion term.

Notes: Abstract This collection of articles is the first of two parts of a special issue on “Neural Networks and Structured Knowledge.” The contributions to the first part shed some light on the issues of knowledge representation and reasoning with neural networks. Their scope ranges from formal models for mapping discrete structures like graphs or logical formulae onto different types of neural networks, to the construction of practical systems for various types of reasoning. In the second part to follow, the emphasis will be on the extraction of knowledge from neural networks, and on applications of neural networks and structured knowledge to practical tasks.

Notes: Abstract As the second part of a special issue on “Neural Networks and Structured Knowledge,” the contributions collected here concentrate on the extraction of knowledge, particularly in the form of rules, from neural networks, and on applications relying on the representation and processing of structured knowledge by neural networks. The transformation of the low-level internal representation in a neural network into higher-level knowledge or information that can be interpreted more easily by humans and integrated with symbol-oriented mechanisms is the subject of the first group of papers. The second group of papers uses specific applications as starting point, and describes approaches based on neural networks for the knowledge representation required to solve crucial tasks in the respective application. The companion first part of the special issue [1] contains papers dealing with representation and reasoning issues on the basis of neural networks.

Description / Table of Contents: Transition Metal Carbyne Complexes, LII. (Tricarbonylchromium)-η6-phenyl as Substituent in Carbene- and Carbyne Complexes of the VI. SubgroupThe reaction of tricarbonyl(η6-phenyllithium)chromium with the metalhexacarbonyls of the VI. subgroup and subsequent alkylation by triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate yields pentacarbonyl-{ethoxy[(tricarbonylchromium)-η6-phenyl]carbene} complexes of chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten (1 - 3). 1 and 3 react with boron trihalides BX3 (X = Cl, Br) by cleavage of the ethoxy group to form trans-tetracarbonylhalogeno[(tricarbonylchromium)-η6-phenylcarbyne]metal complexes 4 - 7. Properties, spectroscopic results, and the X-ray structure analysis of 6 are discussed.

Behaviour of [O2COCH2CH2OH]- and [O2COCH2CH2OCO2]2- in Aqueous SolutionThe behaviour of K[O2COCH2CH2OH] and Na2[O2COCH2CH2OCO2] in aqueous solutions has been investigated by means of conductivity measurements. The equivalent conductivities of [O2COCH2CH2OH]- and [O2COCH2CH2OCO2]2- are determined. The Stokes radii of the ions, the radii of the hydrated ions, and their diffusions coefficients are calculated.

Description / Table of Contents: Steel embrittlement by hydrogen sulfideTensile tests in a pressurized vessel filled with hydrogen sulfide and its mixtures with air or hydrogen show, that at 18 and 130 at hydrogen sulfide produces steel embrittlement in a way comparable to hydrogen; the extent of embrittlement, however, is considerably higher in the case of hydrogen sulphide. Addition of air does not show any influence on embrittlement, while in mixtures with hydrogen embrittlement is less pronounced than under the effect of the pure components. When carrying out such experiments it is necessary to take into account that the experimental apparatus is contaminated by hydrogen sulfide for some time after the experiments, so that during subsequent experiments with pure hydrogen a side effect due to hydrogen sulfide must be expected; this means that in such cases the values obtained are below those obtained for embrittlement in pure hydrogen.
