Abstract A strain ofBacillus cereus, isolated from shrimps pasteurized by radiation, harboured a 7.6mda plasmid. When cells were cured with Acridine Orange, they still produced the haemolytic toxin but not the non-haemolytic one. The results therefore suggest that the plasmid encodes the gene(s) responsible for the non-haemolytic toxin.
