Abstract Nonlinear mechanical plane base-rotator models of DNA are considered. Various expressions for the potential energy of interaction between complementary bases are analyzed. Dissipative functions are introduced into these models: the external function describing the motion of the bases in a solvent and the function describing the internal friction in the molecule. Particle-like solutions of the model without dissipation are obtained and the influence of dissipation on these (soliton) excitations is studied.
