    Notizen: Summary Polyspermy is normally present in the Drosophila egg. Extreme polyspermy may lead to disturbances which may prevent the egg from further development. Polar body formation may be disorganized by supernumerary sperms. Supernumerary sperms may form unipolar, bipolar and multipolar spindles. In rarer cases sperms will enter into normal spindles and form multipolar spindles. In some cases such interference seems to adjust itself to the original bipolar condition and division figures with the polyploid number of chromosomes will result. Either by the conjugation of two sperms, or by dimegaly, or by the doubling of chromosomes of a single sperm, supernumerary nuclei may develop. The origin of certain mosaics and gynandromorphs may be explained on this basis.

The difficulties encountered in the spermatogenesis ofDrosophila melanogaster in regard to pseudo-chromatic inclusions in the nucleus and cytoplasm have been eliminated by the Feulgen nuclear reaction and other special cytologic methods. 2. The chromatin disappears in the early growth period of the primary spermatocyte by diffusing into the karyoplasm. It remains in this condition to the appearance of the leptotene threads. 3. The large nucleolus present in the primary spermatocyte and other nuclear inclusions which stain black with hematoxylin have nothing to do with the chromosomes. 4. A definite leptotene stage is present, but there is not polarization of threads. Synapsis is incomplete and abortive, its duration is extremely brief. 5. Meiotic divisions are typical. In the first meiosis the sex chromosomes are lagging. Interkinesis is very brief. Judging by the behavior of the sex chromosomes, the first meiosis is reductional. 6. The XY pair is never as closely apposed as the components of the autosomal tetrads. 7. Conclusions derived from this investigation substantiate the genetic evidence that there is no crossing-over of factors in the male ofDrosophila melanogaster.
