Notizen: An extended application of the magnetron sputtering discharge is described. The discharge, called a magnetically confined discharge in the experiments, is pumped in a pulse mode to produce and excite copper vapor atoms for laser operation. Copper atom densities adequate for laser action (∼1014 cm−3) are obtained in the discharge at temperatures below 400 K. Laser operation is expected in the experimental apparatus with fast-rise pulse pumping. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: Summary Recent studies in hepatocytes indicate that Na+-coupled HCO 3 − transport contributes importantly, to regulation of intracellular pH and membrane HCO 3 − transport. However, the direction of net coupled Na+ and HCO 3 − movement and the effect of HCO 3 − on Na+ turnover and Na+/K+ pump activity are not known. In these studies, the effect of HCO 3 − on Na+ influx and turnover were measured in primary rat hepatocyte cultures with22Na+, and [Na+] i was measured in single hepatocytes using the Na+-sensitive fluorochrome SBFI. Na+/K+ pump activity was measured in intact perfused rat liver and hepatocyte monolayers as Na+-dependent or ouabain-suppressible86Rb uptake, and was measured in single hepatocytes as the effect of transient pump inhibition by removal of extracellular K+ on membrane potential difference (PD) and [Na+] i . In hepatocyte monolayers, HCO 3 − increased22Na+ entry and turnover rates by 50–65%, without measurably altering22Na+ pool size or cell volume, and HCO 3 − also increased Na+/K+ pump activity by 70%. In single cells, exposure to HCO 3 − produced an abrupt and sustained rise in [Na+] i , from ≈8 to 12mm. Na+/K+ pump activity assessed in single cells by PD excursions during transient K+ removal increased ≃2.5-fold in the presence of HCO 3 − , and the rise in [Na+] i produced by inhibition of the Na+/K+ pump was similarly increased ≃2.5-fold in the presence of HCO 3 − . In intact perfused rat liver, HCO 3 − increased both Na+/K+ pump activity and O2 consumption. These findings indicate that, in hepatocytes, net coupled Na+ and HCO 3 − movement is inward and represents a major determinant of Na+ influx and Na+/K+ pump activity. About half of hepatic Na+/K+ pump activity appears dedicated to recycling Na+ entering in conjunction with HCO 3 − to maintain [Na+] i within the physiologic range.

Notizen: Abstract This paper presents an application for feature matching and affine transformation in computer graphics. The study case considered is 2D cell animation, which is still a labor-intensive process in current cartoon film production. One key problem in automating 2D cell animation in inbetween frame generation. The objective of our work is to investigate how to automatically generate inbetweening from pairs of hand-drawn 2D key frames. Our technique first establishes the correspondence of feature points and then estimates the affine transformation between each pair of 2D key frames. The inbetween frames are then automatically generated by interpolation.

Notizen: Abstract. This paper presents a method for detecting obstacles on a ground plane from a stereo pair of images. Although we use stereovision, the obstacle detection algorithm relies neither on stereo matching nor 3D reconstruction. The principle here is to apply the projective transformation constraining the left and right images to obtain a frame of superimposed features (e.g. edges). By analysing feature superimposition after the projective transformation, a free moving space or space occupied by obstacles/occluded features can be determined.

Notizen: Abstract. This paper presents new and simple solutions to the important problem of robotic hand-eye coordination. Although this problem can be easily solved with precisely calibrated 3D vision system, one question still remains, that is: can this problem be solved with 2D information contained in images without doing any metric measurement with a 3D vision system? Here, we present two new feasible solutions which are both simple (in the sense that a constant mapping matrix is being generated) and practical (in the sense that it works with both simulation and real system).

Notizen: Based on experimental investigation under low cyclic reversed loading, the seismicbehaviors and seismic damage model for steel reinforced high strength and high performanceconcrete (SRHSHPC) composite frame columns are studied. Several existing seismic damage modelsare firstly presented and their characteristics are comparatively analyzed. From the test results of lowcyclic reversed loading, the variation history of cumulative dissipated hysteretic energy of theSRHSHPC composite frame columns under different loading cycle levels is figured out, and theinfluence of axial compression ratio, shear span ratio, stirrup ratio and concrete strength on thecumulative dissipated hysteretic energy is also discussed. The damage index of the SRHSHPCcomposite frame columns is compared according to the existing seismic damage models, and theseismic damage model adapted for the SRHSHPC composite frame columns is established.According to the variation history of the damage index under different loading cycle levels, the rule ofdamage development for the SRHSHPC composite frame columns is proposed. The influence of axialcompression ratio, shear span ratio, stirrup ratio and concrete strength on the damage development isalso discussed. The results indicate that the seismic behaviors of the SRHSHPC composite framecolumn are outstanding, and the seismic damage model could give a quantitative description fordamaging process of the samples, which is reference for establishing more rational damage criteria forthe SRHSHPC earthquake-resistant composite structure
