    Notizen: Abstract We describe an implementation of a general standard basis algorithm, valid for any monomial ordering compatible with the natural semigroup structure. We concentrate on new strategies which have proved useful, in particular in the non-wellordering case. Moreover, we describe the first implementation of Schreyer's method to compute syzygies and compare it with other, more classical methods. Comparisons of the computing time of several examples in the system SINGULAR give hints as to which strategies should be used in different classes of examples.

    Notizen: Abstract The detection performance of fire alarm systems has recently improved substantially with the development of multisensor/multicriteria detection technology, a new generation of products that derive various alarm and diagnostic criteria from a combination of input signals from sensors responding to different fire phenomena. In an actual case, the signals from a photoelectric smoke sensor and a temperature sensor were combined using modern techniques of signal analysis, such as neural networks and fuzzy logic, which by far exceed commonly used simple logic. The underlying algorithms are parametrized to allow application-specific adaptation of the fire alarm system response behavior. Results from laboratory experiments and computer simulations, field tests, and a rapidly increasing number of real installations clearly demonstrate that systems using multisensor/multicriteria detection technology outperform systems that depend on single sensor inputs, such as ionization or photoelectric smoke detection or temperature sensing. Indeed, the results show that such systems can be adapted to respond to a substantially wider spectrum of fire phenomena, such as visible/invisible and black/white smoke, aerosols, and temperature, while remaining much less sensitive to deceptive phenomena that result from cigarette smoke, welding, spray aerosols, dust, humidity, and so on. This new technology not only contributes to improved life safety, it also reduces the probability of nuisance alarms. In this paper, the principle building blocks that lead to the improved detection behavior will be outlined and results from actual installations will be presented. In particular, the effect of application-specific parametrization will be demonstrated. The performance of multisensor/multicriteria fire detection systems will also be compared to that of systems that depend on single sensor inputs only.

    Notizen: Release of desmetryn into the gas phase from films of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, in which the herbicide was incorporated for special agricultural applications, was investigated for comparison with release into water and under outdoor conditions. It could be shown that the rate of release of the active chemical into the gas phase was negligible compared with that into water and only slightly dependent on temperature in the range 0-75°C.

    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Summary Two methods for the determination of triazines in soil were developed and compared. After extraction of the residues with methanol and clean-up by gel permeation chromatography, the samples evaporated were analysed for triazines by splitless capillary gas-chromatography with NP-detector (GC-NPD) and microbore high performance liquid chromatography with UV detector (HPLC-UV) at 222 nm. Both methods gave similar results. The microbore HPLC method was suitable for the analysis of a number of triazines at 10 ppb whereas capillary GC method was used for the analysis of triazines at 5 ppb. Satisfactory average recoveries for the two methods were obtained at 80 ppb and 20 ppb, respectively.
    Notizen: Zusammenfassung Zwei Methoden zur Bestimmung von Triazinen im Boden wurden entwickelt und miteinander verglichen. Nach der Extraktion der Rückstände mit Methanol und clean-up durch Gelpermeations-Chromatographie wurden die Proben eingeengt und auf Triazin-Rückstände hin untersucht. Zur Detektion wurden die splitlose Capillar-Gas-Chromatographie mit NP-Detektor (GC-NPD) und die Microbore-Hochdruckflüssig-Chromatographie mit UV-Detektor (HPLC-UV) bei 222 nm verwendet. Beide Methoden ergaben vergleichbare Ergebnisse bei einem Minimum an Zeit- und Materialaufwand und der Möglichkeit der Automatisation der Rückstandsanalytik. Die Microbore-HPLC-Methode erreichte nach einfachem GPC clean-up eine Nachweisgrenze von 10 ppb im Vergleich zu 5 ppb bei der Capillar-GC-Methode. Zufriedenstellende Wiederfindungsraten wurden für beide Methoden bei 80 ppb und 20 ppb ermittelt.
