Notizen:
Summary Histological and clinical investigations on 136 pituitary tumors are reported. The results suggest that the tumors be divided into two different groups — adenomas with and without “endocrine activity” — according to their cytological, histochemical and clinical characteristics instead of classifying them as chromophobic, eosinophilic and basophilic adenomas. Thus, tumors known to us in the usual terminology as eosinophilic, basophilic and mixed type adenomas belong to the first group whereas the second group comprises the chromophobic adenomas. The data speak for the fact that pituitary adenomas are hyperplasias rather than real blastomas.
