    Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Résumé Le auteurs ont étudié les variations de la vascularisation des glandes parathyroïdiennes à partir de l'analyse de 100 pièces d'éviscération cervicale injectées au Latex. Les résultats de cette étude permettent de mieux comprendre certaines insuffisances parathyroïdiennes consécutives à la chirurgie du corps thyroïde. Il existe en effet dans près de la moitié des cas un dispositif vasculaire susceptible d'expliquer une dévascularisation parathyroïdienne lors de la chirurgie du lobe thyroïdien.
    Notizen: Summary The authors have made a study of the variations in blood supply to the parathyroid glands, basing their report on 100 block dissections of the neck injected with latex. The results allow a better understanding of certain types of parathyroid insufficiency following surgery to the thyroid gland. In almost half the cases the vascular arrangement was sufficient to explain how hypoparathyroidism might come about following surgery to the thyroid gland.

    Notizen: Conclusion Nous pensons que les chirurgiens doivent conserver ces notions à l'esprit au cours de la chirurgie du corps thyroïde. La découverte systématique de la glande a permis à Blondeau d'obtenir une diminution significative des insuffisances parathyroïdiennes dans la chirurgie du Basedow de 9, 2 à 5, 4%. On peut aussi envisager la conservation des deux murs postérieurs, ce qui fait descendre le taux des insuffisances parathyroïdiennes au voisinage de 1% chez ces malades; mais cette technique présente des inconvénients, et il faut songer aux thyroïdectomies totales pour cancer; les conseils donnés il y a déjà longtemps par Halsted (1907) conservent une évidente actualité: la pratique d'une chirurgie très conservatrice comportant la réalisation d'ultra-ligatures au ras du parenchyme thyroïdien peut contribuer à réduire le nombre de ces accidents.

    Notizen: Summary The authors report 7 cases of desmoid tumors of the abdominal wall treated between 1975 and 1996. The treatment of these infiltrating and recurrent connective tissue tumors can only be surgical, by means of wide parietal excision. The severe mutilations of the abdominal wall require different techniques of repair, often combining plastic procedures and the use of prosthetic material. In this short series no tumoral recurrence has so far been noted and the abdominal wall has been firmly restored.

    Notizen: Summary The distribution of type I, III, IV and V collagen in 35 gliomas and 20 meningiomas was studied by indirect immmunofluorescence staining. In addition, the presence of fibronectin (FN) and laminin (LN) is also reported. In gliomas expression of type IV collagen and LN was found in the vessel walls and associated with the endothelial glomerulus-like proliferations. FN and type V collagens were located in proliferating vessel walls in a pattern corresponding both to the basement membrane and the perivascular matrix around the vessels. In the extracellular matrix of grade III and IV gliomas occasional faint intercellular fluorescence was also observed with both FN and type V collagen. Type I and III collagens were localised in the vessel walls and in the perivascular connective sheet. Glioma cells did not express any of the antigens investigated. In meningiomas, type IV and V collagens, LN and FN were found in vessel walls, whorls formations and psammoma bodies. These stainings support the hypothesis of a vascular origin of these psammoma bodies which were only found in syncytial and transitional meningiomas. Both type I and III collagens were detected in the perivascular connective tissue. In general, meningioma cells and extracellular matrix did not express any of these molecules, except in transitional meningiomas where occasional fluorescence was observed in extracellular matrix with type V collagen and FN.

    Notizen: Abstract  The cellular distribution (localization and quantitation) of the target parasite’s antigens in the tachyzoite along the IgA kinetics was determined in the course of acquired toxoplasmosis and congenital toxoplasmosis. In the case of acquired toxoplasmosis, throughout the IgA kinetics a correlation was noted between the membrane and submembrane immunolabeling and the results of the immunocapture and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay IgA (ELISA-A) tests. The rhoptries’ immunolabeling remained higher. The immunolabeling evolution and the results of the immunology tests were not closely related to the treatment (Rovamycin). From the congenital toxoplasmosis cases it was observed that membrane immunolabeling correlated with the results of the serology tests and with the treatment (Fansidar). The rhoptry antigens were recognized throughout the IgA kinetics; even when the serology tests became negative, immunolabeling persisted. Rhoptries appeared as secretory organelles of antigens recognized during acute, chronic, and congenital stages of Toxoplasma infection.

    Notizen: The localization of calcium in Toxoplasma gondii tachyzoites was studied at the ultrastructural level, with a cytochemical pyroantimonate precipitation method (PA) and controlled by EGTA chelating and EDX and EELS microanalyses. Appropriate conditions for material preparation, fixation and embedding, were defined. The proportion of precipitates that were either free or inside vacuoles and their distribution inside Toxoplasma appeared to be PA dose-dependent. Precipitation mainly occurred in the anterior pole of the Epon-embedded tachyzoites. EDX and EELS analyses showed that out of 30 PA precipitates inside tachyzoites, 78% contained Ca. In Melamine sections, 96% of the tachyzoites had intracellular precipitates and the membrane complex was stained; 25% of the tachyzoites inside host cells contained PA-Ca precipitates, but most of them were retained in the reticular network of the parasitophorous vacuole. Melamine embedding appeared to improve the preservation of calcium pyroantimonate precipitates. © 1993 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

    Notizen: The target antigens of specific immunoglobulins G, M, A, and E from patients with acquired acute toxoplasmosis were determined using immunocytochemistry. The relative repartition of these antigens in four cellular compartments of Toxoplasma (membrane complex, apical area, rhoptries, and dense granules) was quantitatively evaluated. Rhoptry antigens mainly react positively with IgA. Membrane, submenbrane area (membrane complex), and rhoptry antigens are immunodominant for IgA and IgM. Apical area antigens are recognized by IgM two times more than IgG and IgA. IgE recognized only rhoptry antigens.The localization of pathogenetically antigenic components and their identification by the immune system appeared to be of importance for selection of immunodominant or recombinant antigens. Such localization would improve laboratory diagnosis of serious congenital toxoplasmosis or in immunocompromised patients with toxoplasmic complications after cyst reactivation. © 1994 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
