Summary In the decade 1969–1979 145 patients with primary cell carcinomas in the oral tongue and mouth-floor region were handled. In general the tumors were in the advanced stage: the treatment was surgical and/or radiological, or a “partial-synchronisation” regimen. In 60 cases (42%) recurrences occurred, mostly in the first two years after treatment. The tumor-stage and primary distribution, usually in the region of the original tumor or the associated lymph system, of the recurrences are analysed. There follows an assessment of the various treatments of the recurrences (operation and/or irradiation, “partial-synchronisation” with time/dose dependence using the cytostatica Bleomycin, 5-FU, Vincristine and Adriamycine) and their success measured on the complications observed and the survival-times.
