Description / Table of Contents:
The volume relaxation of PMMA and PC in the second order transition region was found to obey the same quantitative relationships as reported in the literature for PVC and PVAC. Sufficient agreement was also found with respect to the volume and enthalpy relaxation. This suggests both these processes to be based on similar molecular motions. The temperature dependence of the shift factor in the second order transition region can appropriately by described by the WLF equation. However, at low temperatures this concept proved to be insufficient. The analysis of the relaxation spectrum of PMMA by the PRIMAK model results in relaxation energy distributions having a maximum at about 67.5 kJ/mol and being characterized by a half width of 6.5 kJ/mol.
Notes:
