Notes: Abstract Elastic, inelastic scattering as well as one-neutron transfer channels have been measured over a wide angular range for systems16O+16O at the incident energy of 350 MeV and20Ne+12C at 390 MeV, respectively, using the Q3D magnetic spectrometer. In both cases differential cross sections have been measured down to about 50 nb/sr (or dσ/dσ R≤10−4) at large angles. For the16O+16O system refractive contributions are found at the level of these cross sections, whereas in the20Ne+12C case a steeper decrease of the differential cross section with the angle is observed and the refractive contribution can not be determined. The elastic scattering data have been analyzed using standard Woods-Saxon potentials and potentials calculated in different versions of the double-folding model. Some properties of these potentials are tested in the calculations for inelastic scattering and one-neutron transfer within the DWBA. With the refractive pattern observed for the16O+16O system, the scattering and transfer data are found to be sensitive to the interaction potential at small internuclear distances down to about 2.5 fm.

Notes: Abstract Excitation functions for the elastic scattering of12C on14C and the reactions14C(12C, α)22Ne,14C(12C,t)23Na and14C(12C,d)24Na have been measured in the vicinity of the Coulombbarrier. Strong fluctuations of the differential cross sections as a function of incident energy are observed in the α-particle, triton and deuteron channels. The total yield in the three different channels shows correlated structures at energiesE c.m.=6.8, 7.2 and 8.3 MeV. This phenomenon is similar to the structures observed in the12C+12C reactions and indicates the possible presence of resonances in the entrance channel.

Notes: Abstract The spin alignment of the15N 3 2/* (6.33 MeV) state was measured in the88Sr(16O,15N)89Y reaction atE L =96 MeV using theγ-recoil method. Angular distributions of excited states in15N and89Y were measured with high accuracy. The analysis in terms of DWBA shows that the spin alignment is correctly described by the usual reaction models. The polarisation of the outgoing15N1/2(GS) and15N 3 2/* (6.33 MeV) is discussed. It is shown that cross section differences for transitions to final states with different configurations are sensitive to a spin-orbit potential of15N. The strength and sign of the spin-orbit potential for15N is determined.

Notes: Abstract The transfer of neutrons between low-lying states of Tin isotopes has been measured in the reaction120Sn→112Sn at energies below the Coulomb barrier. The transfer probabilities are deduced as function of the classical minimum distance from transfer and scattering cross sections at different angles and two energies. At the smallest distances very large transfer probabilities,p t =0.5, are observed for one- and two-neutron transfer. The two-neutron transfer is significantly enhanced as compared to a successive independent single-nucleon transfer. The definition of enhancement is discussed.

Notes: Abstract Experimental results for neutron transfer in the system112Sn+120Sn are presented for three incident energies 4.25, 4.55 and 4.8 MeV/u. Final states are not resolved, however, the data represent transitions between low-lying states. The data are used to extract transfer probabilities and form factors for neutron transfer between low-lying states. A DWBA analysis gives a quantitative description of the observed overall cross section for one-neutron transfer. The enhancement of the two neutron transfer is discussed using semiclassical arguments; in this context additional data for the systems86Kr+208Pb,58Ni+208Pb,136Xe+238U and208Pb+238U are discussed. The general features of quasielastic transfer probabilities defined in a macroscopic way by an energy resolution of ca. 5–10 MeV, which is so far the only experimental possibility, are shown to give meaningful information on single nucleon and pair transfer between heavy nuclei. The latter point is also supported by coupled channel calculations for the transfer flux in these reactions and it is shown that a strong coupling situation is only reached at distances, where very strong absorption due to deeply inelastic reactions has set in.

Notes: Abstract Proton and neutron transfer populating low-lying states have been studied in the system144Sm+88Sr at an energy below the Coulomb barrier. The experimental cross sections for the single proton transfer are well reproduced by DWBA-calculations using spectroscopic information from light ion reactions. The two-proton transfer appears enhanced relative to the uncorrelated sequential transfer of single protons. The same holds for the transfer of proton pairs, the enhancement is kept for the second pair. This is interpreted as a supercurrent between two superfluid nuclear proton-pair wave functions: more mass and charge is transported per time unit in pairs than by single nucleons. Neutron transfer is observed with large cross sections and is found to contribute to the energy loss observed in the transfer reactions. For mixed proton-neutron transfers the sequential nature of the transfer reactions is established in a similar way as for the two-proton and two-neutron transfer; in the latter case no enhancement is observed.

Notes: Abstract The mass of 13 Be has been measured with the reaction 13 C(14 C,14 O)13 Be at E Lab =337 MeV. A Q-value of Q 0=−37.02(5) MeV was obtained and the mass excess is M.E.=35.16(5) MeV. If the observed line corresponds to the ground state,13 Be is particle unstable with respect to the oneneutron emission by 2.01 MeV. The observed line width of 0.3(2) MeV supports an assignment ofJ π=5/2+ or 1/2−, but excludesJ π=1/2+. An excited state is seen at 3.12(7) MeV; there are indications of a second excited state at 6.5(2) MeV.

Notes: Abstract First results of the double-charge-exchange reaction9Be(13C,13O)9He, ELab=380 MeV, are presented. The ground state and an excited state at 3.8 MeV are clearly seen. A preliminary value of the9He mass excess is obtained: 41.5±0.6 MeV. Spectra of of the9Be(13C,14O) He-reaction have been measured with high resolution. The ground state transition appears as a pronounced sharp peak, but no other narrow peaks are observed.

Notes: Abstract The two-neutron transfer reactionASn(18O,16O)A+2Sn has been measured for the isotopes A=112, 116, 118, 120, 122 and 124 at bombarding energies of 57 and 60 MeV together with the elastic scattering. Angular distributions have been analysed for the transitions to the ground state and to the first excited 2+ state. The observed ground state transition is strongly enhanced. The theoretical DWBA analysis is performed with a finite range 2n-transfer form factor including recoil correction. The calculated cross section reproduces the observed systematic change over all isotopes. The absolute cross sections are normalized by a factor of 4.7 and 7.5, depending on the two different sets of 2n-wave functions used in the analysis. The results confirm the prediction of the pairing model that the transition strengths of a neutron pair between the ground states of even tin isotopes are the same.

Notes: Abstract The energy shifts in the particle energy due theγ-recoil of an excited state decaying in flight are discussed. Formulae are derived which allow the extraction of spin populations of the decaying state from the line shape in the particle spectrum. Various effects due to kinematics and non-isotropic differential cross section are considered. In most cases a simple extraction of the alignment of nuclear states is possible from a fit to the line shape.
