Description / Table of Contents:
The RAMAN and IR-spectra of (C6H5)4Sn, (C6H5)3SnY (Y = F, Cl, Br, J, OH) and (C6H5)3SnOSn(C6H5)3 are reported, and the frequencies assigned. The phenyl vibrations of the compounds studied in this laboratory have the same position, and can be separated. The spectra are theoretically discussed in view of the chemical bond. Contrary to (CH3)3SnCl, (C6H5)3SnCl does not associate forming (Sn-Cl-Sn)-bridges.Approximative force constants are reported for the X-Cl linkage in the compounds of the type R3XCl (R = CH3, C6H5; X = Si, Sn). They widely exclude double bond character for the Sn-Cl linkage. By means of the IR-spectra it is possible to distinguish between (C6H5)3-SnOH and (C6H5)3SnOSn(C6H5)3
Notes:
