Optically Active, Aromatic Spiranes, 6 Preparation of Optically Active, 5,5′-Disubstituted 2,2′-Spirobiindanes for Testing Approximations for Chirality Functions5′-Acetyl-2,2′-spirobiindane-5-carboxylic acid (2e) is easily accessible from the hydrocarbon 1a via acetylation, haloform reaction and repeated acetylation of the monocarboxylic ester 1d. Optical resolution by means of (-)-α-phenethylamine affords (+)-2e, a key compound for the synthesis of many optically active, 5,5′-disubstituted 2,2′-spirobiindanes. Their chirality (+)(2R) and enantiomeric purities follow from the correlation with the previously prepared 5,5′-dimethyl derivative. The optical activities of these compounds can be quantitatively described by a “reduced polynomial version” for chirality functions.
Notes:
