Notes: Abstract A geometrical study is made of magnetohydrostatic equilibrium of a perfectly conducting fluid considering magnetic field vector, constant along each current line. We have discussed the geometrical behaviour of Lorentz surfaces, field lines and current lines.

Notes: Abstract Effect of overtaking disturbances on the propagation of a spherical shock wave in self gravitating gas has been studied by the technique developed by the first author [Mod. Meas. Cont. B,46(4), 1 (1992)]. The analytical expressions for modified shock velocity and shock strength have been obtained for an initial density distributionρ0 =ρ′r −w, whereρ′ is the density at the axis of symmetry andw is a constant; simultaneously, for the two cases viz.; (i) when the shock is strong and ii) when it is weak. The results accomplished here have been compared with those for freely propagation of shock. It is observed that the conclusions arrived at here agree with experimental observations. Finally, the modified expressions for the pressure, the density and the particle velocity immediately behind the shock have also been derived from, for both cases.

Notes: Abstract The effect of overtaking disturbances upon the free propagation of strong cylindrical hydromagnetic shock through a self-gravitating gas has been studied by an approximating technique developed by Yadav. Assuming an initial density distribution law as ρ0=ρ′r−w, where ρ′ is the density at the axis of symmetry and ω is a constant, the analytical relation for shock velocity and shock strength modified by overtaking waves has been obtained under two conditions: viz., (i) when the applied axial magnetic field is strong and (ii) when the field is weak. The results obtained here are compared with those for a freely propagating shock. The conclusions arrived at agreed with experimental results. It is shown that the applications of the CCW method and the neglect of overtaking disturbances are equivalent.

Notes: Abstract In this paper we have obtained general solution representing conformally-flat, non-static spherically-symmetric perfect fluid distribution in Einstein-Cartan theory. In particular, the solution has been also discussed in co-moving coordinates. The explicit expressions for pressure, density, expansion, rotation, shear and non-vanishing components of flow vector have also been found.

Notes: Abstract This article studies the laminar flow of an electrically conducting non-Newtonian fluid (Rivlin-Encksen type) past an infinite porous flat plate to a step function change in suction velocity in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. The Laplace transform technique has been employed to solve the basic differential equations. The solutions of the velocity profile and skin-friction are obtained and the effects of the visco-elastic parameter, the magnetic field and the time parameter on the fluid flow have been studied in several tables.

Notes: Abstract All the pea varieties differed significantly (p〈0.05) in their phytic acid content. The field pea cultivars had significantly (p〈0.05) higher levels of phytic acid and polyphenols than those of vegetable pea varieties. All the domestic processing and cooking methods could reduce the contents of phytic acid and polyphenols but germination for 48 hours seemed to have a marked lowering effect on the levels of these antinutrients in peas.

Notes: Abstract Out of the 2 important physical factors like temperature and relative humidity, the former plays significant role in affecting the survival of adults and development of immature stages ofCheiloneurus pyrillae Mani which is an important egg parasitoid of the sugarcane leaf hopper (Pyrilla perpusilla Walker) in India. Average longevity of males and females of this parasitoid decreased from 2.47 to 0.81 days and from 4.95 to 0.84 days, respectively when the test temperature was increased from 15 to 35±1.5°C. Similarly, its mean developmental period was found to reduce from a maximum of 45.87 to a minimum of 10.12 days when the rearing temperature was increased from 15 to 30±1.5°C. The parasitoid could not be reared at or above 32.5±1.5°C because its immature stages failed to withstand this temperature. These informations will be helpful in maintaining the mass culture ofC. pyrillae in the laboratory.

Notes: Abstract Oral administration of aqueous extract of seeds of Cassia fistula to mated female rats from day 1-5 of pregnancy at the doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight resulted in 57.14% and 71.43% prevention of pregnancy, respectively, whereas 100% pregnancy inhibition was noted at 500 mg/kg bw. In the uterine bioassay test carried out in immature bilaterally ovariectomized female rats, aqueous extract of seeds of Cassia fistula (100 mg/kg bw) increased the uterine wet weight (p〈0.05) and luminal epithelial cell height (p〈0.001) but did not induce premature opening of the vagina. This suggests a mild estrogenic activity of the extract. However, when the extract was administered conjointly with estradiol valerate (EDV, 0.1 mg/kg bw), it significantly (p〈0.001) prevented the estrogen-induced uterotrophic effect, thus showing an antiestrogenic nature of the extract in the presence of a strong estrogen.

Notes: Abstract A radiochemical displacement method was utilized for the determination of traces of mercury in water taking advantage of its ability to displace cobalt from cobalt(III) diethyldithiocarbamate tagged with60Co. The method is found to be applicable in the concentration range of 50–200 μg/ml mercury. The interfernces from various cations like Fe(III), Co(II), Cu(II), Pb(II) and Ag(I) ions were studied.

Notes: Abstract The thermal decomposition using TG, DTG and DTA, of seven complexes of the types Bu2SnL(I) and Bu2SnL(II) (where H2L(I)=Schiff base derived from acetylacetone and glycine [H2L-1(I)] or L-leucine [H2L-4(I)] or methionine [H2L-5(I)] or phenylglycine [H2L-6(I)]; H2L(II)=Schiff base derived from o-hydroxynaphthaldehyde and β-alanine [H2L-2(II)] or DL-valine [H2L-3(II)] or L-leucine [H2L-4(II)] is shown to fall into one of two categories, viz, (1) Bu2SnL(I) complexes that decompose without melting to give SnO as the final tin containing product, (2) Bu2SnL(II) complexes that melt and then decompose to give SnO. Mathematical analysis of TG data using Coats-Redfern equation, Horowitz-Metzger equation, and Fuoss method shows that the first order kinetics is applicable in all the complexes except Bu2SnL-2(II). Kinetic parameters such as the energy and entropy of activation and pre-exponential factor are reported.
