Notizen: ---Capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) with indirect UV detection was developed for the simultaneous determination of inorganic anions and organic acids in environmental samples. Various aromatic acids (benzoic, phthalic, trimellitic, and pyromellitic acids) were evaluated as background electrolytes (BGEs) to give high resolution and detection sensitivity. Co-electroosmotic conditions such as the concentration of BGE, electrolyte pH, and EOF modifier were systematically investigated. Three inorganic anions and ten organic acids were determined simultaneously in 10 min using an electrolyte containing 10 mM phthalic acid, 0.5 mM myristyltrimethylammonium bromide (MTAB), and 5% methanol (MeOH) (v/v) at pH 5.60. Linear plots for the test solutes were obtained in the concentration range 0.01-1.0 mM with detection limits in the range 5-30 μM. The proposed method was successfully demonstrated for the determination of inorganic anions and organic acids in natural water, soil, and plant extracts after direct sample injection.

Notizen: The use of a tungsten oxide electrode for potentiometric flow-injection analysis of transition metal ions is described. The effect of a variety of experimental conditions, including the carrier pH, the types of ligands and their concentrations, was studied. It was found that the best sensitivity for the ions tested was obtained using EDTA as a ligand. The electrode exhibited a linear response for Fe3+, Cu2+, Pb2+ and Ca2+ in the range of 2.5 × 10-4 M to 2 × 10-3 M using with 1 × 10-3 M EDTA at pH 5.0 as carrier. The detection limits were found to be between 1 × 10-5 to 5 × 10-5 M. Reproducibility for Fe3+ was about 1.7% with a stable baseline potential.

Notizen: Ethanol in wines was determined by flow injection analysis with an amperometric detector using an oxidized nickel wire. Solid-phase extraction with a strong anion exchanger was used to remove interferences such as organic acids from the matrix, and the residue of the extraction was injected directly into the FIA system. The recoveries of ethanol from wines spiked with standards ranged from 101% to 103%. The response of the nickel electrode to ethanol is dependent on the applied potential and the pH of the carrier. The optimal conditions for the detection of ethanol were an applied potential of +0.60 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) in a carrier of 100 mM sodium hydroxide solution. The electrode exhibited a linear response from 10-5 to 10-3 M, with a detection limit of 1 × 10-6 M. The method was demonstrated by the determination of ethanol in wines.

Notizen: The use of a tungsten oxide sensor for the potentiometric detection of metal ions separated by liquid chromatography is described. Separation of metal ions such as Fe3+, Fe2+, Cu2+ and Pb2+ was performed by ion chromatography using a mobile phase containing 25 mM sodium tartrate/2 mM ethylenediamine at pH 3.8. Calibration plots were linear in the range 0.5 to 3.5 mM. Potentiometric detection was also applied to ion-interaction chromatography. The results showed that separation of metal ions was improved and the detection limits for the test metals in the range of 0.5-5 nmol were obtained in the presence of sodium citrate/1-octanesulfonic acid at pH 3.0. The potentiometric detection described in this article is shown to have advantages in terms of low cost, simplicity and sensitivity.

Notizen: A carbon rod electrode coated with a poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) membrane containing aquatic humic substances (HS) isolated from swamp water was constructed for the detection of copper(II) ion. The electrode exhibits a linear response with a slope of 60.1 ± 2.0 mV/decade in concentration range from 10-5 mol L-1 to 10-2 mol L-1. The detection limit for the copper(II) ion was estimated to be of 1 × 10-5 mol L-1. Electron spin resonance spectroscopy (ESR) and pH titration results indicated that the humic substances interact with copper(II) ions to form complexes. These results confirm that the potential response of the membrane electrode with good sensitivity, selectivity except for Pb2+ and Hg2+, and response to copper(II) ion is due to the formation of stable complexes occurring at the electrode surface.
