    Notizen: Sputter-deposited, heteroepitaxial (100)CdTe layers prepared at growth temperatures of 300–325 °C are found to be p-type with high dark resistivities on the order of 2×105 Ω cm. The epilayers are highly photoconducting and exhibit photoconductivity to dark conductivity ratios as high as 1×106 at around 200 K. The photoconductivity is observed to exhibit a sublinear dependence on illumination intensity and a thermally activated behavior. The model developed by Simmons and Taylor [J. G. Simmons and G. W. Taylor, J. Phys. C: Solid State Phys. 7, 3051 (1974); G. W. Taylor and J. G. Simmons, J. Phys. C: Solid State Phys. 7, 3067 (1974)] to explain photoconductivity in amorphous semiconductors is shown to be applicable to these epitaxial layers. Hole traps at 0.40 and 0.23 eV above the valence band have been determined from the temperature dependence of the photoconductivity. Acceptor levels at 0.62 and 0.07 eV above the valence band, determined from the temperature dependence of the dark conductivity, are discussed in relation with photoluminescence bands at 0.81 and 1.00 eV reported earlier [S. R. Das, J. G. Cook, N. L. Rowell, and M. S. Aouadi, J. Appl. Phys. 68, 5796 (1990)] in these epilayers.

    Notizen: Abstract The adiabatic motion of charged particles in the magnetosphere has been investigated using Mead-Fairfield magnetospheric field model (Mead and Fairfield, 1975). Since the motion of charged particles in a dipolar field geometry is well understood, we bring out in this paper some important features in characteristic motion due to non-dipolar distortions in the field geometry. We look at the tilt averaged picture of the field configuration and estimate theoretically the parameters like bounce period, longitudinal invariant and the bounce averaged drift velocities of the charged particle in the Mead-Fairfield field geometry. These parameters are evaluated as a function of pitch angle and azimuthal position in the region of ring current (5 to 7 Earth radii from the centre of the Earth) for four ranges of magnetic activity. At different longitudes the non-dipolar contribution as a percentage of dipole value in bounce period and longitudinal invariant show maximum variation for particles close to 90° pitch angles. For any low pitch angle, these effects maximize at the midnight meridian. The radial component of the bounce averaged drift velocity is found to be greatest at the dawn-dusk meridians and the contribution vanishes at the day and midnight meridians for all pitch angles. In the absence of tilt-dependent terms in the model, the latitudinal component of the drift velocity vanishes. On the other hand, the relative non-dipolar contribution to bounce averaged azimuthal drift velocity is very high as compared to similar contribution in other characteristic parameters of particle motion. It is also shown that non-dipolar contribution in bounce period, longitudinal invariant and bounce averaged drift velocities increases in magnitude with increase in distance and magnetic activity.

    Notizen: Abstract. A seven-quasiparticle isomer with $K^{\pi} = (49 /2^ + )$ and T 1/2 = 53 ( + 3 -7) ns has been identified in 179Ta. By comparing its excitation energy with results from multi-quasiparticle calculations that include the effects of blocking and residual nucleon-nucleon interactions, the isomer is assigned the $\pi^{3}$ (5/2 + [402], 7/2 + [404], $9/2^{-}[514]) \otimes \nu^{4}$ (5/2-[512], 7/2-[514], 7/2-[503], 9/2 + [624]) configuration. The decay of this isomer is found to be unusually fast, a feature that is attributed to a mixing with a specific collective level. The interaction strength is found to be orders of magnitude lower than that observed between interacting collective levels.

    Notizen: Abstract The average latitude of theSq(X) focus along the longitude 75°E has been estimated using the Tsyganenko model (Tsyganenko, 1981) of the external magnetic field for storm time conditions of the magnetosphere. It is observed that the shift of the focal latitudes, due to magnetospheric currents, is only about 1 to 2° even during strong storms. It is also shown that the shift is asymmetric about the equator and longitude dependent. The day to day changes in observed focal position are much larger and the magnetospheric currents cannot, therefore, be regarded as a dominant mechanism of focal movement.

    Notizen: Abstract A field survey of road-side rhesus monkey of northern India was conducted during 1964–65 for the study of group composition and population density. In 1651 km distance covered during this survey, total of 83 groups of rhesus monkey were counted. Adult females were predominant over other members in the group and were twice the number of adult males in a group. Infants were more than double the numbers of juveniles and juveniles formed the smallest percentage in any group and showed a tendency of decline in their population. Percentages of group size varied from 2.50 to 28.09. Sex-ratios, proportions of infants and juveniles to adults, proportions of juveniles to infants and the population density in different zones and sectors have been discussed.

    Notizen: Abstract Primary synovial sarcoma of the head and neck region is a rare tumor. This report describes seven cases of primary synovial sarcomas, of which two were in the parapharyngeal region, two in the supraclavicular region, and one each in the hypopharynx, sternocleidomastoid and submandibular regions. Clinical presentations, radiological findings, histopathology and management are reviewed. All patients received multimodal therapy using aggressive surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Five of the patients are alive and disease free after 24–108 months of follow-up. Achievement of locoregional control appears to be the hallmark of successful therapy.

    Notizen: Interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) as a polymer blend matrix was prepared using different ratios of polyester (PE) to epoxy (E) resins. It was observed that 11.33 wt % PE in the blend provides maximum mechanical properties, particularly the modulus for the casting, and such a blend is referred to as “optimum casting” (OC). The density of the blends containing up to 11.33% PE, especially of OC, was found to have increased by the presence of PE in the E network significantly more than would have been estimated from the calculation based on the rule of additivity. The thermal expansion coefficient parameter (Δαi) of the OC was found to be 2.68 × 10-4K-1. The scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the fracture surface of OC only showed a glass-like smooth surface. The change in the mechanical properties due to the varying proportions of PE in the blend was studied critically on the basis of failure mechanisms and morphological features. The differential thermogravimetric analysis (DTGA) of OC indicated only one peak in spite of the presence of two resin constituents, whereas castings with an excess of PE in the blend showed multiple peaks. Interestingly, as far as the DTGA is concerned, a domain of seemingly OC origin was found to remain, even in the blends containing PE resin above its optimum level (〉 11.33 wt %). ©1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
