Conclusions 1. In comparison with other cells based on pneumatic measuring methods [5], the cell here described has a more rigid membrane and a thickened central portion: this reduces the distortions introduced by the cell in the stress state of the soil. 2. The cell construction ensures parallel displacement of the nozzle during its regulation; this reduces the possibility of accidental errors and facilitates the establishment of the zero reading on the scale. 3. The measuring system ensures a sufficiently high sensitivity of the device. 4. The device is practically insensitive to temperature variations, unlike most cells based on electrical measuring methods. 5. The manufacturing techniques for the cells are very simple. These cells can be used for laboratory investigations of structures interacting with the soil under static loading conditions.
