Abstract The effects of various factors on the pulse produced in the iron wire—nitric acid system have been studied. These effects were investigated relative to the speed of the pulse propagation along the wire, the pulse amplitude, and the pulse width. Among the factors employed were temperature, wire dimensions, acid concentration, iron purity, and time elapsed between two successive pulses. The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of utilizing such a system as a pulse-shaper, a pulse amplifier, and as a delay line.
