Abstract This study describes the histologic findings of injured arteries after electrical burns. These findings are shown to correlate with the clinical findings of soft tissue necrosis and delayed bleeding. Eight patients with severe electrical injuries who underwent amputations of extremities were studied. Thickening of the tunica intima and degeneration of the tunica media, associated with small artery occlusion, were evident in the arteries at the transition zone between severely injured and grossly normal areas.
