Notes: Summary Classic medulloblastoma is a relatively common and distinct clinicopathologic entity consisting of primitive multipotential cells with differentiating capacity to neuroblastic and/or glial cell lines. Desmoplastic medulloblastoma has some features in common with cerebellar neuroblastoma, in which ultrastructural evidence of significant neuroblastic differentiation is extremely rare. We studied three cerebellar tumors with evidence of neuronal differentiation as compared to four classical desmoplastic medulloblastomas. Two of three tumors contained the regions of different degrees resembling desmoplastic medulloblastoma and one consisted of neuroblastic cells exclusively. This spectrum of differentiation suggests a relationship between cerebellar neuroblastoma and medulloblastoma, especially of the desmoplastic type. The nature of cerebellar neuroblastoma and its nosology are briefly discussed.

Notes: Summary A cerebellar tumor of a 4-month-old girl was examined by light and electron microscopy. The presence of numerous synaptic vesicles in many cell processes and the occasional synaptic devices warranted the diagnosis of neuroblastoma of the cerebellum. The nature of the tumor is discussed briefly.

Notes: Summary A case of primary cerebral rhabdomyosarcoma in a 51-year-old female is reported. The histogenesis of this tumor is discussed. The clinicopathological features of 10 previously reported similar tumors of the CNS are briefly reviewed. Histologically the tumor was polymorphic, but composed of poorly differentiated cells interpreted as rhabdomyoblasts without definite cross-striation. Electron microscopy established that the poorly differentiated cells were of rhabdomyosarcomatous nature, compatible with presumptive myoblasts and analogous to developing fetal muscle.

Notes: Summary We report a case of cerebral gangliocytoma (GC) with a variety of unusual structures in the tumor cells. Light microscopically, the tumor consisted of typical ganglion cells, atypical cells which has argyrophilic granules in the cytoplasm, and a few astrocytes. Electron microscopically, the tumor cells showed typical gangliocytic features, which had abundant rough endoplasmic reticula, ribosomes and cored vesicles of 90–150 nm diameter, a few 50-nm-diametered non-cored vesicles, and other common organelles in their cytoplasm. Furthermore, neoplastic ganglion cells contained a variety of abnormal structures, including membranous cytoplasmic bodies (MCB), Zebra bodies (ZB), tubular structures, branched tubular structures (BTS), concentrical laminated bodies and curvilinear bodies (CB). The MCB, ZB and CB resembled those in GM2 gangliosidosis (GMG), and the BTS that in infantile neuroaxonal dystrophy (INAD). Although the significance of these inclusions is still unknown, it is considered that some common mechanism might play a role in the metabolism of both neoplastic neuronal cells and degenerating neurons (GMG and INAD). Synapses could not be observed anywhere despite complete neuronal differentiation of many tumor cells.

Notes: Abstract A new system for high-speed and continuous 3D measurement is presented. It is based on the slit-ray projection method. The key component is the image plane constructed by a position-sensitive device (PSD) array that is horizontally un segmented and linear, but vertically numbered. All PSD row elements are attached to their respective analog signal processors. The analog signals are multiplexed and digitized by multiplexers and A/D converters at appropriate sampling intervals and stored in memory. By virtue of this configuration of the image plane, basis data for 3D measurement are acquired during only one scan of the slit ray at high speed in the form of memory addresses and data. Moreover, if we use large capacity and/or dual port memories, we can continuously obtain 3D range data for as many scenes as needed. The trial system has been implemented with a newly designed 128-channel PSD array and has verified our method, enabling us to obtain successive 3D range data at video rates with an error within±0.3%.

Notes: Abstract A patient with vitamin D dependent rickets with decreased sensitivity to 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D was observed. She suffered from bone pain of two years duration beginning at 12 years of age and was found to be suffering from hypocalcemia, secondary hyperparathyroidism and osteomalacia. Laboratory findings revealed normal serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (27 ng/ml) and markedly elevated serum 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (131.9 pg/ml). The hypocalcemia was refractory in spite of administration of 25,000 units of vitamin D2, but therapy with high doses of oral 1α-hydroxyvitamin D3 resulted in significant elevation of the serum calcium level. The clinical findings and course of the patient's disease were quite different from those of other patients with vitamin D dependent rickets reported by other authors.
